Fantasy Baseball Pitching Waiver Wire: Top Thursday Streamers and Closer Targets
Looking for innings, strikeouts or saves? These widely available pitchers could help fantasy managers on Thursday and beyond.
Let's open the day by checking out some fantasy baseball waiver wire/streaming pitching options!
Check back later for a waiver wire article on hitters.
Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Martin Perez - Atlanta Braves
Perez has been added in 4.1% of fantasy baseball leagues, and he's now rostered in 40.96% overall.
He will make a start against the Giants on Thursday evening. That's a very good matchup on paper, which is part of the reason why Perez is on the rise today.
Across 14 appearances this season, Perez is 5-3 with a 2.90 earned run average over 62 innings. He's allowed 20 runs on 44 hits and 21 walks, while also striking out 51 batters.
He has allowed three or less runs in four straight appearances, but has topped out at 5 2/3 innings in those outings. There's a decent fantasy floor with Perez today, especially in a solid matchup, but his ceiling is also a bit lower, so I really only like him a bunch in deeper leagues. There's likely better standard league streaming options available to you, even on a slower day of MLB action.
Tony Santillan - Cincinnati Reds
Santillan is owned in 13% of leagues right now - that's up from 10% four days ago.
He appears to be settling into the closer role for Cincinnati, with saves in back-to-back appearances. Santillan is 1-3 with four saves, four blown saves and 11 holds over 32 appearances.
He has allowed 18 runs (17 earned) on 29 hits and 13 walks over 28 innings. Santillan has a 5.46 ERA and 27 strikeouts.
He's a rising fantasy asset, but just a deep-league fantasy asset with his overall numbers. Santillan could be a decent fantasy asset while in the closer role, so utilize him in a few more leagues while he's pitching a bit better.
Shane Drohan - Milwaukee Brewers
Drohan has been picked up in 2.39% of leagues, and he's now rostered in 23.21% of leagues overall.
He gets a Thursday afternoon start against the Guardians. That's a pretty good matchup on paper, especially with Jose Ramirez out with an injury.
Drohan has started four times this season, and has made three starts in a row. He has allowed between 2-4 runs in his starts, and has at least four strikeouts in three straight appearances. Drohan has topped out at 6 1/3 innings, but has been at four and five innings in the other outings.
There's some things to like with Drohan, but his ceiling is a bit limited as well. In this matchup, I like utilizing Drohan in most deeper leagues, but again, there's likely some better standard league options out there.
Yoendrys Gomez - Minnesota Twins
Gomez is up 2.05% today, which brings his overall mark to 29.01%.
He appears to be emerging as the Twins' closer. He has seven saves on the season, and four of them have come in June.
Gomez has pitched in 29 games overall, and he has five holds to go along with the seven saves. He has no wins or losses, and he's yet to blow a lead. Gomez has allowed 17 runs (15 earned) on 30 hits and 17 walks, while striking out 34 over 35 innings.
Gomez is on the rise as a fantasy asset, and he's a pretty good deep-league fantasy asset right now. Minnesota might not win enough to get him into standard leagues, but those desperate for saves could at least consider Gomez.
Gage Jump - Athletics
Jump sits at 50.51% rostered after a 1.7% increase so far today.
He will start against the Angels on Thursday evening. That's a very good matchup on paper, but with the game being in Sacramento, Jump's fantasy outlook is a bit lower for this one.
Jump has started four times since being called up to the big leagues. He is 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA over 23 1/3 innings. Jump has allowed eight runs on 20 hits and six walks, while striking out 19 batters.
He allowed four runs in his first start, then just four combined in his past three outings. Jump is trending up, and I like him in this matchup, even with where the game is being played. I like him in all deeper leagues, and think he's a legit standard league streaming option as well.
Jacob Webb - Chicago Cubs
Webb is owned in 4% of leagues right now. He's on the rise after Cubs' closer Daniel Palencia was put on the 15-day injured list.
He earned a save on Wednesday, so Webb appears to be the leader for saves in Chicago. He has two saves on the year, along with a 1-1 record, three blown saves and five holds.
Webb has pitched in 32 games overall, covering 31 2/3 innings. He's allowed 14 runs (11 earned) on 31 knocks and 10 walks. Webb has struck out 37 batters along the way.
Webb could be a solid short-term fantasy option in deeper leagues, but he'll need to be earning all the saves for that to be the case. At the very least, consider picking Webb up in really deep fantasy leagues today. The more saves he earns, the more leagues he'll be added in, but his value could fizzle up when Palencia is back, so keep tabs on that.
