Phillies
The closer situation in Philly is still not settled.
Matt Strahm earned a save on June 29. His only other appearance in the last week came in a non-save situation. Over 34 1/3 innings this season, Strahm has 39 strikeouts and five saves.
Jose Alvarado is still out due to his suspension. Jordan Romano allowed four runs over an inning in his lone appearance in the past week.
The only other competition for Strahm is Orion Kerkering. He took a loss and earned a hold over three appearances in the past week. He has 34 strikeouts over 33 2/3 innings, along with two saves this season.
Strahm is the Philly fantasy reliever I'd want to own right now, but Romano (30%) and Kerkering (29%) both have higher own percentages than Strahm (19%). This is a situation to watch daily, but we may never have a clear closer until Alvarado returns - he's eligible to come back on August 19.
Mets
Edwin Diaz is the clear No. 1 guy in New York.
He has 17 saves and three wins this season, along with a 1.91 earned run average over 33 innings. Diaz has 49 strikeouts as well, which helps make him one of the top fantasy options in the league.
Braves
Raisel Iglesias still seems to be the closer in Atlanta despite some struggles this season.
He has a 5.28 ERA over 30 2/3 innings. Iglesias is 4-5 with nine saves and four blown saves. He has 33 strikeouts along the way.
Iglesias is owned in 72% of fantasy leagues, which is probably still too high a mark given his performance so far this season.
Marlins
It appears that Ronny Henriquez has emerged as the team's go-to late-inning reliever.
Henriquez has saves in back-to-back games and four total on the season now. He's 4-1 and has 11 holds as well. He has a 2.85 ERA over 41 innings, along with 57 strikeouts.
Calvin Faucher has eight saves on the season, but no saves since June 24. He has a blown save, win and hold since then, and has allowed four runs over 2 2/3 innings.
Henriquez is owned in 19% of leagues, while Faucher is at 17%. Henriquez should keep rising, while Faucher falls, with every save Henriquez gets. Miami isn't good enough to support a go-to closer in standard leagues, but Henriquez has some deep-league appeal at least.
Nationals
Kyle Finnegan has 18 saves on the season, but hasn't earned one since June 6.
He has blown two saves, taken a loss and earned a win since that last save. Finnegan has a 2.53 ERA over 32 innings, while striking out 25 batters.
Finnegan is down to 77% rostered, but he's falling more because of his team's struggles than his own individual shortcomings. Expect that own percentage to keep falling if he doesn't start earning more saves.
Cubs
Daniel Palencia is still getting all the save chances in Chicago.
He's got 10 saves, including saves in back-to-back appearances. Palencia is 0-2 with a 1.74 ERA over 31 innings, while also having 35 strikeouts.
Ryan Pressly is also pitching well, and Porter Hodge is also back in the mix, but Palencia has a firm grasp of the closer role for now. Palencia is at 53% rostered, while Pressly is at 40% and Hodge sits at just 9%.
Brewers
Trevor Megill is the Milwaukee closer without a doubt.
He blew a save in his last appearance on Sunday, and hasn't appeared in a game since. Megill has 18 saves, three blown saves and a 1-2 record this season. He has a 2.73 ERA over 29 2/3 innings and has racked up 35 punchouts.
Megill is up to 85% rostered after a pretty strong month of June. If he continues to rack up saves in July, he could get close to 100%.
Cardinals
Ryan Helsley has righted the ship after allowing runs in his first four appearances in June. He didn't allow a run in his final four appearances of the month.
Helsley has saves in back-to-back outings and is up to 16 on the season. He's 3-0 with five blown saves, while having a 3.41 ERA and 35 Ks over 29 innings.
He's slightly trending back up, and is currently rostered in 94% of leagues.
Reds
Emilio Pagan continues to serve as the Reds' closer. He hasn't had a save since June 21 though.
Pagan has 18 saves, three blown saves and a 1-2 record this season. He has a 3.00 ERA over 36 innings, while also tallying 45 strikeouts.
Pagan is up to 82% rostered, and it could grow if the Reds earned some more wins, or if he's moved to a better team lacking a closer.
Pirates
David Bednar earned his 12th save of the season on the first day of July.
He has a 2-5 record and no blown saves on the season. Bednar has a 2.73 ERA over 29 2/3 innings, while also having 42 strikeouts.
Bednar would be a better fantasy asset if Pittsburgh was a better team, but he's still rostered in 65% of fantasy leagues. He'll be a name to watch near the trade deadline.
Dodgers
Tanner Scott is the clear-cut Dodgers' closer right now.
He has 18 saves, five blown saves (none since May 28) and a 1-2 record on the season. Scott has a 3.46 ERA and 42 strikeouts over 39 innings.
Scott is rostered in 96% of leagues and should get to 100% with a good month of July.
Padres
Robert Suarez allowed a run in his last appearance, but still picked up the save, his 24th of the season.
He has three blown saves, a 2-4 record, a 4.04 ERA and 37 strikeouts over 35 2/3 innings this season. Suarez has allowed three runs over his past two appearances, and gave up nine total runs in June, so he's trending down.
It's barely affected his own percentage, as he still sits at 97%.
Giants
Camilo Doval is up to 13 saves on the season and is the team's closer now. Ryan Walker had 10 saves earlier in the season, but has continued to struggle.
Doval blew a save in his last appearance, and has allowed seven earned runs over his past four outings. He has a 4-2 record, four blown saves and a 3.03 ERA over 38 2/3 innings. Doval has 38 strikeouts as well.
Neither pitcher is doing all that well right now, but it appears that Doval still has a firm grasp on the closer role. It's a situation to monitor, as another reliever could eventually claim the closer role.
Doval is rostered in 70% of leagues, while Walker is at 59%. Both of those marks should probably be lower, and they won't increase until their results on the hill get better.
Diamondbacks
Shelby Miller is up to 10 saves on the season. He took a loss against the Giants in his last appearance.
Miller is 3-3 with the 10 saves, five blown saves, a 2.04 ERA and 39 punchouts over 35 1/3 innings this season.
Miller is owned in 47% of leagues, and it's still rising.
Rockies
Seth Halvorsen is the most-owned Colorado reliever, but sits at just 8% rostered. Jake Bird is at 3%, and he's not even in the mix for saves right now.
Halvorsen has six saves, three blown saves and a 1-2 record this season. He has a 4.05 ERA over 33 1/3 innings, while striking out 31 along the way. Halvorsen is acting as the team's closer more often than not, but the team doesn't win enough to support a fantasy closer.
Tyler Kinley recently earned a save, but that came in extra innings. He has an ugly 6.57 ERA this season.
