Heading into the weekend, it's that time again: let's look at five starting pitchers in action on Friday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.

Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Mike Burrows, Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Texas Rangers

Burrows has only thrown 26 2/3 innings in his big-league career, but he has looked good in that time, allowing 14 runs (12 earned) with 10 walks and 27 strikeouts. It's impossible to know what to expect from a guy with such a short track record; it's also impossible to live up to the expectations set by recent young Pirate pitchers. He was good with both strikeouts and run prevention in the minors, so there's a chance that Burrows can keep finding success.

Texas is a bottom-five offensive team being buoyed by a top-five pitching staff. It feels like the team MUST make a few trades to upgrade the offense, as even league-average players could upgrade their offensive unit greatly. They would be wise to look at making those trades earlier rather than waiting until the trade deadline to see if they can steal a few more games over the next six weeks.

Burrows is a mid-level streamer. He's been good, and the matchup is very good, but I can't fully trust a guy with such little experience at the highest level.

Hunter Dobbins, Boston Red Sox @ San Francisco Giants

Oh, isn't this a fun weekend series? The Giants just acquired Rafael Devers from the Red Sox less than a week ago, and the teams now meet in Devers' new home. San Fran is a bottom-10 offensive team, but they could see a boost from their new slugger. It'll be worth watching how the Giants' offense responds to a new force in the middle of the order.

Dobbins faced the rival Yankees in each of his past two starts. He picked up the win in both games, though they were different outings:

  • Sunday, June 8 @ Yankees: 5 innings, 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 home runs, 0 walks, and 0 strikeouts
  • Saturday, June 14 vs. Yankees: 6 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 5 strikeouts

Dobbins is a mid-level streamer. The matchup is better in this one than his previous two games, giving Dobbins a good chance to continue his winning ways. He has been really good with walks but a little worse than average with strikeouts; it has worked out to a good start to his career.

Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Washington Nationals

Kershaw has made six starts after beginning the season on the IL, looking OK in his 27 2/3 innings: 26 hits, 10 earned runs, 10 walks, and 20 strikeouts. Those aren't the numbers of peak Kershaw; he'll never pitch like that again. He has been decent, though, and is worth considering on the right days.

Washington went on a horrible streak recently, losing 11 in a row before beating the Rockies yesterday (losing the series to league-worst Colorado 3-1). They now play three against the Dodgers followed by three against the Padres in the first six of a nine-game road trip. It might get worse before it gets better.

Kershaw is a low- to mid-level streamer. His work is down a little but still good enough to be a middling pitcher, and the matchup here is good based on recent results, though Washington looked better before their recent slide.

Jeffrey Springs, Athletics vs. Cleveland Guardians

The A's playing at a minor league stadium in Sacramento has made their home games something like playing at Coors Field; Athletics pitchers are among the bottom two in most categories in home games, along with the Rockies. They aren't much better on the road, but they are at least just a bottom-10 unit away from home, a slight improvement. This game is at home, and that counts against Springs.

Speaking of the starting pitcher, he is just a little worse than average with both strikeouts and walks this season, but he has been an above-average K guy up until 2025. His previous high-level work came mostly as a reliever, so it's reasonable to expect that he will keep this lower strikeout rate while working as a starter.

The Guardians are among the worst offensive teams in baseball, so even though they get the bump from playing in Sacramento, they are still worth considering as a team to target. They were hitting home runs at an average level, but that has fallen to a bottom-10 rate, meaning Cleveland doesn't have anywhere they excel.

Springs is a low- to mid-level streamer. He gets knocked down a notch because of the location of the game, along with his lower strikeout rate as a starter.

Spencer Turnbull, Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago White Sox

Turnbull has only thrown 4 1/3 innings in two relief appearances this season, so it's tough to know how long he will go in this one. He might work more as an opener, but even if he only goes a few innings, he could have success given the matchup. Turnbull has been right around average with both strikeouts and walks in his career, mostly working as a starter.

The White Sox keep cruising as a bottom-three team; it's familiar territory. Even though they finished with the worst record in the league last season, Chicago picks 10th in the upcoming draft because of a rule where big-market teams can't have lottery selections in consecutive years (which they did last year). They picked up some good players in the Garrett Crochet trade this offseason, but Chicago might be stuck with just a good prospect rather than a great one in the first round due to new draft rules.

Turnbull is a mid-level streamer. He has one of the best matchups around, and he has been an average pitcher in his career. There is some risk because of his short work this season.

Friday's Streamer Rankings

  1. Mike Burrows, PIT
  2. Hunter Dobbins, BOS
  3. Spencer Turnbull, TOR
  4. Clayton Kershaw, LAD
  5. Jeffrey Springs, ATH
