Is Tyler Anderson a Fantasy Baseball Waiver Option Worth Adding a Day Before His Start?

Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.

After taking a peek at some deep-league fantasy baseball waiver wire hitters, let's now check out a new batch of waiver wire pitchers in the middle of the week.

We won't cover anyone that appeared in Monday's or Tuesday's waiver wire articles, and we won't include any starting pitchers who were in Wednesday's streaming story.

Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.

Should You Add Tyler Anderson?

Anderson starts on Thursday against the Pirates, so he could be part of the daily streaming article. He's already been added in 3.99% of leagues, bringing his overall mark to 30.37%.

Anderson has started the season strong. Across four starts, the 35-year-old lefty is 2-0 with a 2.08 earned run average. He's allowed five runs on 11 hits and 12 walks over 21 2/3 innings, while also striking out 21 batters.

His low hit total is promising, but those high walk numbers are definitely an issue. His WHIP is still a respectable 1.06, so he's been able to pitch around traffic and not allow many runs.

He's faced the Cardinals, Guardians, Astros and Giants, so not many super favorable matchups yet. His clash against the Pirates will be his most favorable start on paper.

He's gone at least five innings in each start, while topping out at six innings. Anderson has allowed three or less hits in three of his starts, and hasn't allowed a run over his past two starts (11 2/3 innings).

He has at least four strikeouts in each game, with six each in two straight starts. Anderson has walked at least two batters in each contest, with four each in his middle two starts.

Anderson isn't the best streaming option out there, but he's still pitched well enough early on to utilize when he's got favorable matchups. Thursday against the Pirates is a great matchup for him, and that means he'll be a streaming option in all formats.

I like him best as a deep-league option, but wouldn't be opposed to him being used in a standard league as well. Check back to FantasySP to see if he makes the cut, and see how he stacks up, against other Thursday streaming options.

Should You Add Kumar Rocker?

Rocker is getting added because he starts on Wednesday. He's up 3.07% and is now owned in 31.28% of fantasy leagues.

Rocker has shaky numbers over his first four starts of the season. He's 1-2 with a 6.38 ERA over 18 1/3 innings. Rocker has allowed 14 runs (13 earned) on 23 hits and four walks, while striking out 14 batters.

He's made starts against the Reds, Rays, Mariners and Angels, which are all pretty favorable matchups, so his down numbers are not a great sign. Rocker faces the Athletics on Wednesday, which are maybe the worst matchup for Rocker among his first five starts.

Rocker has failed to cover four innings in two of his starts, but went seven frames in his last outing. He's allowed at least five hits in each game, and has given up three or more runs in three outings.

Rocker has two games with two walks and two with none. He's had three or less strikeouts in three outings, but is coming off an eight-strikeout performance.

I get why Rocker wasn't included in the daily streaming story today. Rocker hasn't been very consistent early on, and the Athletics aren't the best matchup out there.

I could see Rocker delivering solid fantasy results again, or failing to reach five innings and giving up a handful of runs. I wouldn't be all that confident in streaming Rocker on Wednesday.

I'd only consider streaming him in deep fantasy leagues, and would not entertain the idea in a standard league. We need to see better starts from Rocker before we reach that level of thinking.

Should You Add Will Vest?

Vest has been trending up after earning a couple saves in a row for the Tigers. He's been added in 2.82% of fantasy leagues, bringing his total mark to 6.96%.

Vest earned saves in his last two appearances. Those were his second and third times pitching in the ninth inning this season. He's worked between the sixth and eighth innings otherwise.

In 10 games so far, Vest has a 1-0 record, the two saves and one hold. He's worked 9 2/3 innings, allowing a run on three hits and three walks. Vest has struck out 10 batters along the way.

He only has three outings in which he hasn't recorded a strikeout, and he's got three appearances with multiple Ks. Vest has pitched at least one inning in nine of his outings, while recording more than three outs just once.

Vest hasn't given up multiple hits in any appearance. His run allowed came against the Dodgers. Vest only gave up a walk in three games, and only one of those came when he also allowed a hit.

In other words, Vest has been very dominant on the mound, so it makes sense for him to be used as a high-leverage reliever, or in the closer role.

In my American League closer update, I talked about Vest and the other Detroit closer options. With no clear closer, I advised fantasy owners to only target the Detroit relievers in deeper leagues. Seeing Vest's own percentage, fantasy owners are following suit so far.

He's worth keeping tabs on in all leagues in case he emerges as the Tigers' go-to closer. I personally think they will continue to roll with their committee all season, but Vest is certainly capable of taking the main bullpen role at any point.

I'd only consider adding Vest in the deepest of fantasy leagues. He's more of a stash and hope addition than someone you can expect big things out of going forward. Consider your roster makeup and league settings and make your decision on Vest accordingly.

Should You Add Eduardo Rodriguez?

Rodriguez is another streaming option on Wednesday. He's up to 44% rostered, and has slowly been trending upward this season.

He's made four starts so far, going 1-2 with a 4.09 ERA. Rodriguez has allowed 13 runs (10 earned) on 24 hits and six walks, while striking out 29 batters.

Rodriguez has made starts against the Cubs, Nationals, Brewers and Marlins so far, so mostly weaker-hitting teams. He's logged at least five innings in three of the starts, while going 6 1/3 innings against Milwaukee. Rodriguez allowed three hits in his first start, and it's grown each game and is up to 10 as of his most recent start.

He's allowed three or four runs in every start, but only allowed one earned run against Miami his last time out. Rodriguez didn't walk any Marlins last time out, which was his first time without a walk. He has games of three and five strikeouts, but also outings with nine and 12 punchouts.

Rodriguez has been all over the place as a starter, but has a pretty solid matchup Thursday against the Rays. I don't love the matchup, but there's a chance he delivers solid results in this one.

If Rodriguez had pitched better to this point of the season, he could be a standard league streaming threat on Wednesday. Because of his inconsistencies, I'd only consider streaming him in deeper leagues.

Rodriguez is a keeper in a fair amount of deeper leagues, but needs to deliver better results to see his own percentage rise even more.
