Fantasy Baseball Week 5 Projections and Waiver Wire Hitting Options

Looking at week 5 fantasy baseball projections to identify some possible streaming options.

Monday is here, which means we have a new fantasy baseball week starting up! 

With that in mind, let's look at the FantasySP weekly projections to identify some possible waiver wire options. We'll only cover hitters, as FSP's Daniel Hepner goes over starting pitcher streamers each day.

Catchers

Washington's Keibert Ruiz is the top-projected fantasy catcher who isn't rostered in all leagues already. He's rostered in 82% of leagues right now, and is projected for 20 fantasy points across six games.

In 19 games and 78 plate appearances so far, Ruiz has a .306 average and .359 on-base percentage. He has two doubles and homers among his 22 total knocks, along with 11 RBIs, four walks, nine runs scored and eight strikeouts.

While Ruiz is the only fantasy catcher over 20 projected points, several guys fall just below that mark.

Toronto's Alejandro Kirk (19% owned), Arizona's Gabriel Moreno (44%), Chicago Cubs' Carson Kelly (56%) and Houston's Yainer Diaz (86%) are all projected for 18 points, and each catcher has six games scheduled this week.

First Basemen

Kansas City's Vinnie Pasquantino is owned in 88% of fantasy leagues and is set for 23 fantasy points across six games.

In 22 games and 91 plate appearances, Pasquantino is hitting just .195, with a .264 OBP. He has three doubles, a triple and two home runs among his 16 total knocks, along with 14 RBIs, seven walks, five runs scored and 17 punchouts.

San Francisco's Wilmer Flores is projected for 22 fantasy points, is owned in 64% of leagues and has seven games this coming week.

He has a .203 average and .250 OBP across 22 games and 84 plate appearances so far this season. Flores has six homers among his 16 total knocks. He also has 23 RBIs, a stolen base, four walks, 11 runs scored and 17 strikeouts.

Cleveland's Carlos Santana (23%) is set for 22 fantasy points and has six games this week. Tampa Bay's Jonathan Aranda is projected for 21 points, has six games and is rostered in 67% of leagues. Arizona's Pavin Smith is projected for 21 points as well - he has six games this week and is owned in 37% of fantasy leagues.

Second Basemen

Detroit's Gleyber Torres is owned in 81% of fantasy leagues and is projected for 24 points this coming week. He has six games scheduled.

In 10 games and 44 plate appearances (he was injured for a bit), Torres has a .268 average and .318 OBP. He has a double and homer among his 11 total hits, along with four RBIs, two stolen bases, three walks, six runs scored and five strikeouts.

LA Angels' Kyren Paris and Milwaukee's Caleb Durbin are projected for 22 points. Paris has six games this week and is rostered in 73% of leagues, while Durbin has seven games and is owned in 14% of leagues.

Paris now has a .288 average and .383 OBP across 19 games and 61 plate appearances. The early-season star has five homers and a double and triple among his 15 total hits. Paris also has accumulated eight RBIs, five stolen bases and walks, 13 runs scored and 19 strikeouts.

Durbin just got called up. In three games and across 12 plate appearances, he has two singles and was plunked by a pitch. Durbin has an RBI and stolen base, along with two runs scored and two strikeouts.

Washington's Luis Garcia Jr. (63%) has six games this week and is projected for 21 fantasy points. Chicago White Sox' Chase Meidroth (8%) has seven games and is set for 20 points, while Miami's Otto Lopez (31%) is projected for 20 points across six contests.

Shortstops

Minnesota's Luke Keaschall is one of the top-projected players of the week. He's set for 27 points across six games, and is owned in just 14% of leagues after just being called up.

Keaschall has four hits, including two doubles, across his first four hits. He has two RBIs, a stolen base, walk and run scored and two strikeouts in three games and 13 plate appearances.

Tampa Bay's Chandler Simpson is another prospect who was just called up. He's set for 25 fantasy points across six games, and is owned in 43% of leagues.

In two games and eight plate appearances so far, Simpson has a double among his two hits, an RBI, stolen base and run scored and has also struck out once.

Miami's Xavier Edwards is projected for 25 fantasy points across six games. He's owned in nearly 82% of leagues.

Boston's Trevor Story (74%) is projected for 24 fantasy points across seven contests. LA Angels' Zach Neto (67%) and Arizona's Geraldo Perdomo (82%) are both projected for 23 fantasy points across six games.

San Francisco's Tyler Fitzgerald (52%) is set for 22 points across seven games, while Minnesota's Carlos Correa (45%) is at 20 points in six scheduled games.

Third Basemen

Arizona's Eugenio Suarez is projected for 22 fantasy points across six games. He's owned in 81% of leagues.

Suarez has a .156 average and .261 OBP across 22 games and 88 plate appearances so far. He has six homers and three doubles among his 12 total knocks, along with 15 RBIs, a stolen base, nine walks and runs scored and 29 strikeouts.

Texas' Jake Burger (77%) and Kansas City's Jonathan India (59%) are both set for 20 fantasy points across six games this coming week.

Burger has played in 20 games and gotten 70 plate appearances. He has a .179 average and .214 OBP, along with eight RBIs, one walk and seven runs scored. Burger has two doubles and home runs among his 12 total hits, along with 21 strikeouts.

India has played in 21 games and gotten 90 plate appearances. He's got four doubles among his 16 total knocks, along with four RBIs, 11 walks, five runs scored and 12 strikeouts.

Outfielders

Washington's Alex Call is projected for 23 fantasy points across six games. He's owned in 9% of leagues right now.

Call is hitting .293 and getting on base at a .407 clip across 16 games and 55 plate appearances. He's got two doubles and a triple among his 12 total knocks, along with eight RBIs, a stolen base, six runs scored, 10 walks and only four strikeouts.

Minnesota's Byron Buxton is set for 23 points across his six games. He's rostered in 54% of leagues.

Buxton has a .244 average and .277 OBP across 20 games and 83 plate appearances. He has four doubles and homers and a triple among his 19 total knocks. Buxton has 10 RBIs, five stolen bases, two walks, 17 runs scored and 26 strikeouts so far.

Cincinnati's TJ Friedl (37%), Tampa Bay's Jake Mangum (20%), Boston's Wilyer Abreu (88%), Milwaukee's Sal Frelick (50%) and Athletics' JJ Bleday (41%) are all projected for 22 fantasy points this week. Abreu and Frelick both have seven games scheduled this week, while everyone else has six games on tap.

San Francisco's Heliot Ramos (74%) is set for 21 fantasy points across seven games this week. Boston's Ceddanne Rafaela (45%), LA Angels' Jorge Soler (53%), San Francisco's Mike Yastrzemski (31%), Arizona's Jake McCarthy (15%), Toronto's George Springer (83%) and Washignton's Dylan Crews (65%) are all projected for 20 fantasy points. Of that big group of outfielders, Yastrzemski and Rafaela are the only two with seven games this coming week.
