Jonathan India Out for Season Following Shoulder Surgery
Jonathan India's season has officially come to an end after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum. This is a tough blow for the fourth-place Royals, who are currently spiraling on a six-game losing streak with a 22-37 record. With India sidelined, Michael Massey has stepped in as the primary starter at second base on the depth chart.
The injury completely wipes out any rest-of-season utility for the former Rookie of the Year, who was already struggling with a weak .167 batting average and a .623 OPS over 48 at-bats this year. This represents a significant regression from his career .247 baseline, making his 2026 campaign a lost year.
Even though the weekly schedule shows a full seven-game slate against Cincinnati and Minnesota, India will not take the field. There is no reason to occupy an injured list slot with him in redraft formats, as he will not return this season. Verdict: Drop.
