Parker Messick | Fantasy Outlook

Parker Messick heads to the midsummer classic as a dominant force in the Cleveland rotation

Messick has been exceptional during his rookie campaign, recently being named an All-Star after posting a 1.80 ERA over his most recent start. He remains a pillar of the rotation for a second-place Guardians squad that is currently looking to snap a four-game losing streak. While his 1.60 WHIP over the last seven days shows some recent traffic on the bases, his ability to limit damage has kept him among the elite rookie performers in the American League.

While our season models initially projected a 4.08 ERA, Messick has far exceeded those marks with a stellar 2.92 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through his first 101.8 innings. His 9.64 K/9 rate is no fluke, as it closely mirrors his career trajectory and high-leverage collegiate profile. Expect his ratios to remain strong, though a slight regression toward a 1.25 WHIP is possible if his walk rate fluctuates during the second half of the season.

The left-hander is scheduled for one start this week, a July 10 road matchup against the Marlins. He will face off against Sandy Alcantara, who carries a 4.08 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. While Alcantara is a formidable opponent, Miami's lineup provides a favorable environment for Messick to continue his high-strikeout ways. Given his current form and the high probability of a quality start, he should be locked into all active lineups. Start.
