Nick Loftin | Fantasy Outlook

Loftin provides a much-needed spark and infield versatility during a hot June stretch.

Loftin has emerged as a vital contributor for the fifth-place Royals, batting .308 with two home runs and six RBI over his last 11 games. Following Maikel Garcia’s hand injury, Loftin has transitioned into the everyday starter at third base while also providing relief at second, helping stabilize the Kansas City infield. Despite the team currently being on a two-game slide, Loftin’s reliable contact rate and ability to drive in runs have solidified his role in the lineup.

Comparing his recent surge to our season projections, Loftin is displaying far more pop than the .342 slugging percentage we initially anticipated. While his career batting average has historically hovered closer to the .200 mark, his current 11% strikeout rate during this 14-day stretch suggests he has refined his plate discipline and approach. It is unlikely he maintains a .900-plus OPS, but he has established himself as a legitimate everyday asset rather than just a depth option.

The Royals wrap up their week with a three-game set against the second-place White Sox. Loftin gets a fantastic look today against David Sandlin, who has struggled to an 8.10 ERA this season. While he will face a tougher test against Davis Martin on Saturday, the week concludes against Anthony Kay and his high 1.43 WHIP. With three games remaining against a division rival and favorable matchups on the bookends of the series, Loftin is a high-upside play. Start.
