14-Team Fantasy Football League Strategy: 14-Team PPR Mock Draft

Dr. Roto Aug 31st 1:03 PM EDT.

Most fantasy football leagues have 12 teams with around 16 rounds in their drafts. High-stakes leagues often have 12 teams with 20 rounds of selections. But there are some leagues that have more than the traditional 12. In this mock draft simulation, I used 14 teams as my baseline. When you have 14 teams it thins the player pool out more quickly. Players jump up a round in value and you cannot wait as long to take a sleeper.

Here is my draft board from a recent 14-team mock I did. In 14 and 16-team drafts I do not wait as long on my QB. My biggest fear is that in such deep leagues, QB gets extremely thin and I cannot land a good enough option to compete. This was a Full-PPR draft, with starting lineups of 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 K, and 1 Defense. For the purposes of these mocks, I always take 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, and 1 TE on my bench.

14-Team PPR Mock Draft Analysis

Round 1 (1.09): RB Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons

I am happy to start my 14-team league with a hero RB who catches passes.

Round 2 (2.06): WR Chris Olave, New Orleans Saints

I’m in on Olave almost too much at this point; might need to diversify.

Round 3 (3.09): QB Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers

I love Herbert, especially in deeper leagues. He's as solid as they come and not as pricey as the top options.

Round 4 (4.06): WR D.J. Moore, Chicago Bears

I worry about the number of receptions he will have this season but he is the clear WR1 in Chicago who should have tons of YAC.

Round 5 (5.09): RB Rachaad White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

White will be a PPR machine on a bad offense, with 14-16 points per game optimally.

Round 6 (6.06): WR Jahan Dotson, Washington Commanders

I love Dotson's hands and think he can break out if Sam Howell is as good as I am projecting.

Round 7 (7.09): RB Brian Robinson, Washington Commanders

I seem to be taking him as my RB3 which I am perfectly fine with. He’s tough to take down by the goal line and has better hands than most realize.

Round 8 (8.06): WR Quentin Johnston, Los Angeles Chargers

I love pairing him with Herbert; love him even more if Mike Williams gets injured.

Round 9 (9.09): WR Elijah Moore, Cleveland Browns

Moore seems to be dropping some, which is fine by me as I will scoop him up all day.

Round 10 (10.06): TE Chigoziem Okonkwo, Tennesee Titans

Okonkwo is not the rock-solid tight end that I was hoping for but in a 14-team league, I need to make concessions somewhere.

Round 11 (11.09): RB Tyjae Spears, Tennesee Titans

I love Spears to get six to 10 touches a game with the chance at more if Derrick Henry slows down.

Round 12 (12.06): TE Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions

I worry about rookie tight ends knowing the playbook, but the Lions have no choice but to use him.

Round 13 (13.09): Dallas Cowboys Defense

They are really a solid defense and that can separate you in a deep format like this.

Round 14 (14.06): RB Deon Jackson, Indianapolis Colts

I am throwing a dart here with Jonathan Taylor on PUP and likely on the way out soon.

Round 15 (15.09): K Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens

Best kicker ever.

Round 16 (16.06): QB Sam Howell, Washington Commanders

Adding Howell here builds me a sneaky backdoor stack with Robinson and Dotson.

Final 14-Team Mock Draft Analysis

I think this team can compete for a championship. It’s very well-balanced and has good depth. I’m a little worried about my tight ends, but I’d rather be weak there than at any other skill position.
