Wednesday Fantasy Baseball Pitching Streamers: Four Faltering Pitchers With Great Matchups

With the Stanley Cup having started yesterday (potentially running through June 17) and the NBA Finals starting today (possibly running through June 19), we are ALMOST to the point where baseball is the only major American sport in action. There will be events during the summer, like the World Cup and tennis/golf events, but as far as major sports in America, the only season in progress will be baseball for a few months until the NFL comes storming back.

Moving to fantasy baseball, let's look at four starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who have good matchups and are widely available in fantasy leagues. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable pitchers. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Walker Buehler, San Diego Padres @ Philadelphia Phillies

Buehler hasn't put up even average stats since 2022, when he had just 12 starts and 65 innings. Since then, he has mostly been worse than average with both walks and strikeouts while holding an ERA around 5.00. In 2026, he has been good with walks and just a little below average with strikeouts while doing well limiting home runs. Bad luck might play a little into his worse run prevention, but it matches his recent seasons, making it hard to trust Buehler for high-level innings.

Philadelphia ranks in the bottom five in runs, hits, doubles, walks, batting average, on-base percentage, and OPS. They are better with home runs, buoyed by Kyle Schwarber's 22, but Bryce Harper (14) is the only other Philly with as many as 10 homers. Harper and Brandon Marsh are the only Phillies with at least 10 at-bats who are batting at least .240; there's not much to like here for Philadelphia.

Buehler is a low-to-mid-level streamer. His numbers aren't awful, but we haven't seen Buehler find much success over the past few seasons, so even the good matchup leaves him with a lower fantasy value.

Grant Holmes, Atlanta Braves vs. Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays have done OK hitting the ball, but they aren't hitting for much power, ranking in the bottom 10 in home runs, slugging percentage, and OPS. While Toronto doesn't walk much, they also don't strike out, leaving a lower ceiling for opposing pitchers. The Blue Jays aren't a great target, and it's reasonable to expect better performance moving forward after their trip to the World Series last year, but Toronto has started this season struggling offensively, which also has them under .500.

Holmes is a good strikeout pitcher who walks too many batters. He has done well limiting runs and hits both in his career and in 2026, but he has given up too many home runs this season. He was better limiting homers before this year, so there's reason to think he will improve there. Holmes has been an effective pitcher who could use a little more control.

Holmes is a low-to-mid-level streamer. The matchup isn't great, but Holmes has done well overall, and his Ks ticking back up raises his ceiling (though the Blue Jays don't strike out much).

Chris Paddack, Cincinnati Reds vs. Kansas City Royals

Paddack has been good with walks but far below average with strikeouts the past few years while getting hit hard. He is giving up too many hits, runs, and homers, holding an ERA close to 6.00 in around 200 innings since the beginning of 2025. He was previously good with Ks, but he has been down long enough to bring a real concern that he won't find that magic again, especially since he missed essentially a full season after Tommy John surgery prior to that downturn.

The Royals have been on a downswing, now ranking in the bottom 10 (or very close to it) in runs, hits, home runs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. A team that started out slowly then picked things up a little, Kansas City is showing themselves to be a below-average offensive team that is worth targeting.

Paddack is a low-level streamer. The matchup is right, but he hasn't been good enough over the past few years to really count on in fantasy, and that includes being released by the Marlins less than a month ago.

Andre Pallante, St. Louis Cardinals vs. Texas Rangers

Texas is in or very close to the bottom 10 in most offensive stats, not showing much prowess in any area. They are also just outside the top 10 in most batter strikeouts, setting a decent ceiling for opposing pitchers. This game is away from the Rangers' home park, helping their hitters a little, but I'm looking to target Texas any chance I get.

Pallante is on the high end of average with walks, but he is a below-average strikeout pitcher who has never been higher than a few percentage points worse than average. He does well limiting home runs but is closer to average allowing hits and home runs. There's an OK fantasy streamer here when the matchup is right, but Pallante doesn't have much upside.

Pallante is a low-to-mid-level streamer. He has been fine, but the lack of strikeouts keeps his ceiling lower than we would like, particularly during the first half of the season.
