Luis Pena remains an elite stash prospect despite his absence from the active roster
Pena has not seen any Major League action over the last 30 days as he continues his development in the minor leagues. The first-place Brewers, currently 59-37, are leaning on Cooper Pratt and Joey Ortiz at shortstop, leaving Pena as a high-upside depth option for the organization. While his health was a concern following early-season fainting spells, recent news confirms he is healthy and performing well in the minors, highlighted by a career-high four-steal game in late June.
Without MLB career stats or a current season projection, we must rely on his pedigree as a top-20 overall prospect. His speed is clearly his loudest tool, having swiped 18 bases in just 25 games earlier this summer after returning from the injured list. While the power is still developing for the 19-year-old, his ability to reach base and create havoc on the basepaths is legitimate, though managers should expect a period of adjustment whenever he finally makes the jump to the big leagues.
Milwaukee has a short three-game weekend set at home against Miami starting Friday. Since Pena is not currently on the active roster or the primary depth chart, he will not provide any value for fantasy managers in this matchup. He remains a high-priority hold in dynasty and deep keeper formats due to his elite ceiling, but he should not be in any active redraft lineups for the week ahead. Sit.
