The first weekend in July finds us with only one division in which the leader has a margin of more than five games (it's the Dodgers; surprise, surprise). Every team has more than 70 games remaining so there's still time for every division to get turned upside down, but it's encouraging that we have close races as we approach the All-Star break.

Moving to fantasy baseball, let's look at four starting pitchers in action on Friday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Grant Holmes, Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets

Christian Scott, New York Mets @ Atlanta Braves

We'll start today with a game in which we can target both teams with streaming pitchers. The Mets have been a bottom offensive team pretty much all year, holding many bottom-five rankings in the box stats and not many areas where they even sniff average. The Braves started hot offensively, but they were one of the worst offensive teams in baseball in June. I expect Atlanta to bounce back to at least an average level, but it's impossible to ignore how hard they've struggled recently.

Last season, Holmes walked too many guys, but he made up for it with an above-average strikeout rate. He's still struggling with control this season, but his K rate has fallen slightly below average, dropping his fantasy ceiling. He has still done well limiting hits and runs while giving up home runs at a higher-than-average rate, leaving Holmes somewhere in the middle.

Scott made a nondescript debut in 2024, but he suffered an elbow injury late in the season that cost him all of 2025. He has been better upon his return, throwing 45 innings this year with 39 hits, 17 runs, five homers, 21 walks, and 53 strikeouts. His walk rate is a little high, but his strikeout rate is well above average, helping him look very good in a small sample. His starts are generally short (not reaching six innings in any outing), but Scott looks good when he is on the mound.

Holmes and Scott are both mid-level streamers. Scott has looked like the better pitcher this year, but Holmes has a better track record and the better matchup here. Atlanta's recent struggles give Scott another boost.

Anthony Kay, Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Guardians

Kay had a very good May, going at least five innings in all six of his starts and never giving up more than two earned runs. June wasn't so kind, as Kay failed to go more than four innings in three of his five starts and gave up at least four earned runs in each of those outings. His season numbers are very middling in essentially every area, but Kay also has a well-below-average strikeout rate, holding down his fantasy ceiling.

Cleveland matched the Braves as one of the worst offensive teams of June, but that also spreads to the full season, where they rank lowly in most areas. The Guardians are in the bottom 10 in runs, hits, home runs, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS. They draw walks and don't strike out a ton, so that lowers the ceiling they set just a bit, but Cleveland also provides a nice floor for opposing pitchers.

Kay is a low-to-mid-level streamer. He has been fine, and the matchup is right, but Kay has also had his share of troubles at times, and his low strikeout rate limits his upside on any given day.

Trevor Rogers, Baltimore Orioles @ Cincinnati Reds

Cincinnati is another team that started hot before falling off, but while Atlanta was actually performing like a top team, the Reds were riding a lot of luck, particularly in close games, and weren't really putting up the numbers of a top club from either their pitchers or hitters. Offensively, Cincinnati is in the bottom 10 in everything except the power categories. A team can excel by hitting for power and not much else if they really mash, but the Reds are closer to the middle than the top in those areas, leaving them below average overall.

Rogers had a rough stretch in both April and May, but he turned it around last month, going at least 5 2/3 innings in all five starts in June and not allowing more than three runs in any of them. In his last three outings, Rogers combined for 19 1/3 innings, 11 hits, three runs, four walks, and 17 strikeouts, his best stretch of the season and a welcome site for a Baltimore team that is flailing close to 10 games under .500.

Rogers is a low-to-mid-level streamer. The matchup is right, and I'm tempted to bump him up due to his recent success, but Rogers has shown more bad than good this season, so it's best to temper expectations a bit until we see him put together a longer stretch.
