Why don't Saturdays seem as fun as they used to? Everything gets worse when you grow up, but remember how magical the weekend was as a kid? It didn't matter as much in the summer, since there's no school anyway, but that freedom meant something. Now? We just dread going back to work again next week. Ugh.

The world keeps turning, though, so let's look at five starting pitchers in action on Saturday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Sean Burke, Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians

In yesterday's doubleheader between these teams, the Guardians won the first game 4-2 before the White Sox took the nightcap 5-4 in 11 innings. The four starting pitchers combined for 19 innings and nine runs allowed; that's not great, but it's also a decent combined outing for four different guys, none of whom are great pitchers. That theme can continue today because these teams are just plain bad offensively.

Burke is just 111 innings into his big-league career, with 92 coming this season. He has been a hair worse than average with strikeouts but several percentage points worse with walks. “Below average” is a good way to describe Burke's career so far, though he has been good enough to consider in the right matchups.

Burke is a low- to mid-level streamer. The matchup is right, but Burke has only found limited success, including picking up a loss against Cleveland back in April.

Janson Junk, Miami Marlins @ Baltimore Orioles

I can't get over Junk's name; it's just perfect for a pitcher, and the alliteration makes it even better. Even though he has seen big-league action in every season since 2021, Junk has limited experience, totaling just 83 1/3 innings. More than half of them have come in 2025. Junk is extremely good with walks but below average with strikeouts, though his K number is better this season. He has shown enough to draw some intrigue.

Baltimore is just outside the top 10 in home runs, but they are in the bottom 10 (or close to it) in most other offensive box stats outside of the power categories. Maybe most importantly for our purposes, the Orioles rank in the bottom five in walks drawn and in the top 10 in most batter strikeouts, setting up a nice baseline for opposing pitchers in fantasy.

Junk is a low- to mid-level streamer. This is another case where the matchup is right, but the pitcher is just a little tough to trust, causing me to temper expectations despite some decent numbers.

Frankie Montas, New York Mets @ Kansas City Royals

Kansas City has the second-fewest home runs in baseball, ahead of only the Pirates (who have just 64 homers in 95 games). Last year, the White Sox and Nationals were at the bottom in home runs with 133 and 135, respectively. The Royals are on pace for 125 this season. (Pittsburgh is on pace for 109, so it could be worse.) Though they are better in a few other areas, KC's lack of power is a major plus for opposing pitchers.

Montas didn't make his season debut until June 24 and has made three starts in that time. The first outing was good: five innings, three hits, no runs, three walks, and five strikeouts. In his past two starts, though, Montas has combined for 9 2/3 innings, 12 hits, 10 runs, one walk, and seven strikeouts. Those last numbers are fine, but getting hit like that won't lead to much success. Over his career, Montas is average with walks and a little above average with strikeouts.

Montas is another low- to mid-level streamer. He has been a little uneven since his return, and while the Royals don't hit home runs and don't walk, they also don't strike out much, leaving a lower ceiling.

Brady Singer, Cincinnati Reds vs. Colorado Rockies

Singer is owned in close to one-third of leagues, a decent number but not enough to disqualify him as a streamer. He should be in a lot more lineups when he faces the Rockies today, maybe the worst offensive team in baseball (and definitely the worst team overall). Colorado has drawn the second-fewest walks while striking out the most of any team, creating a big ceiling.

Singer was very good last year with the Royals (though his 9-13 record wouldn't prove it; that's part of why we have moved away from pitcher records as a major stat). He has seen essentially every number get worse this season, including his walk rate, strikeout rate, ERA, and WHIP. He's still an average pitcher, but Singer looked like something more last season, and I wonder if he will start to improve again (though he has been inconsistent from season to season).

Singer is a mid-level streamer. The matchup couldn't be better, but Singer has taken a step backward. While there is still upside here, I won't shoot the moon with a Singer recommendation.

Brandon Woodruff, Milwaukee Brewers vs. Washington Nationals

I'll just mention Woodruff quickly because he is owned in over half of leagues and doesn't really meet our streamer criteria. Woodruff missed four months in the middle of the 2023 season then sat out all of 2024 after shoulder surgery. Prior to that, he was a Cy Young contender with a very good walk rate and phenomenal strikeout rate.

He made his first start of the season on July 6, throwing six innings with two hits, one run, no walks, and eight strikeouts. This is a player with huge upside who also might not find that top form again; I'm intrigued enough to take the chance.

The Nationals are just a fringe target, not a great team to go after but worthy of targeting in the right situation. They offer Woodruff another chance at a good outing, as Washington tops out as an average offensive team. I am happy to recommend adding him to your lineup if he's available.
