Wednesday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Targets: Wilyer Abreu, Kyle Stowers or Someone Else?

Looking at a few waiver wire hitters and pitchers to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.

Wednesday has arrived, so it's time for the third fantasy baseball waiver wire article of the week! We'll cover the top pitchers and hitters here in this story.

We won't cover anyone who appeared in waiver stories from Monday or Tuesday. Also be sure to check out Wednesday's streaming article.

Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.

Should You Add Simeon Woods Richardson?

Woods Richardson has been added in 4.05% of leagues, bringing his overall mark to 11.04%.

He is another streaming option for Wednesday. Woods Richardson will take on the Marlins this evening. He hasn't faced Miami yet this season.

Woods Richardson has made 12 appearances this season, going 3-4 and posting a 4.63 earned run average. He has worked 58 1/3 innings, allowing 32 runs (30 earned) on 59 hits and 22 walks, while striking out 52 batters.

He was recalled to the big leagues in early June and has made four starts since. Woods Richardson allowed seven runs (six earned) in one start, and gave up four runs (three earned) in his third start back. The other two starts saw Woods Richardson work five scoreless innings.

He's coming off maybe his best outing of the season against the Mariners. Woods Richardson didn't allow a run on two hits and a walk, while punching out six batters. He probably had more in the tank as well, as he was pulled at 82 pitches.

Woods Richardson is coming off a strong start and has a favorable matchup tonight. He's a bit of an underrated fantasy streaming option tonight, but there's reasons to believe he could deliver good fantasy results.

I'm on board with streaming Woods Richardson in deeper redraft leagues. Depending on who else was available, I could also maybe justify streaming him in standard leagues, although I'd say he's a much better deep-league option.

He's likely to face the Cubs after this start, which is not a matchup to try Woods Richardson in. Start him today if you want to utilize him.

Should You Add Wilyer Abreu?

Abreu is up 3.06% so far - he sits at 69.63% overall.

He has five hits over his past three appearances. Abreu hit two homers in his last game, and also drove in five runs in that contest. He has another homer, and a double, among the other five hits in that short stretch.

Abreu is hitting .256 for the season, while getting on base at a .323 clip. He's played in 74 games and logged 269 plate appearances this season. Abreu has 62 total hits, including 10 doubles and 16 home runs, along with 45 RBIs, 33 runs scored, four stolen bases, 25 walks and 64 strikeouts.

He's hitting fifth in every start he makes for the Red Sox. Abreu isn't starting against most lefties, so that's a negative for his fantasy outlook.

Abreu was one of the better fantasy hitters early in the season, but has fallen off. An injury also dropped his own percentage significantly.

He's a better deep-league option, but when he's hot at the plate, like he is now, it makes sense to stream him in some standard redraft leagues too. Just know that he's likely going to cool off soon and then be droppable again.

So, you should absolutely add Abreu if he's available in a deeper fantasy setup. Those needing some short-term help in standard leagues could also benefit from adding Abreu to the mix today.

Should You Add Kyle Stowers?

Stowers is at 53% rostered - he was down to 30% on June 26.

He's hot at the plate again, recording a hit in eight straight games. Stowers has 11 hits, including four doubles and homers, in that span. He also has 10 RBIs, seven runs scored, six walks and 10 strikeouts in that stretch.

For the season across 79 games and 305 plate appearances, Stowers has a .283 average and .359 OBP. He has 14 homers, 13 doubles and three triples among his 76 total hits. Stowers has 44 RBIs, 38 runs scored, three stolen bases, 30 walks and 87 walks as well.

It seems that every couple weeks, Stowers is either a waiver pickup or drop candidate. What that says is that he's a streaky hitter.

He's very similar to Abreu in my book, but has produced more over the course of the season. Stowers is a good deep-league asset, and is worth streaming in standard leagues when he's hot at the dish, like he is now.

He too bats fifth when he's in the lineup. Stowers also sits against most left-handed starting pitchers.

Jump at adding Stowers in deeper setups if he's available. I'd also add Stowers in standard leagues if you need some help for a little bit.

Should You Add Ronny Henriquez?

Henriquez is up 1.62% and is now owned in 10.43% of leagues.

He is on the rise after earning a couple saves in a row for the Marlins. He also earned a win in the game before that, so Henriquez has clearly gained enough trust to earn some high-leverage innings for Miami.

On the season, Henriquez is 4-1 with four saves, two blown saves and 11 holds. He's appeared in 38 games and covered 41 innings. Henriquez has a 2.85 ERA, allowing 16 runs (13 earned) on 34 hits and 16 walks. He also has racked up 57 strikeouts already.

There's plenty of fantasy appeal in a lot of those numbers, but the wins probably aren't sustainable. Even so, if Henriquez can earn some occasional saves and keep racking up strikeouts, then he's got some fantasy value in some leagues.

He's just a deep-league option in my eyes, at least for now. I'm not sure the Marlins are good enough to support a fantasy closer, but he's worth tracking in case the team starts winning more, or he gets moved to a contender.

Should You Add Ernie Clement?

Clement is up another 1.99% today, bringing his overall mark to 51.53%.

Clement had a good month of June and opened July with another good showing. Dating back to May 27, Clement has a .376 average and .415 OBP over 32 games and 135 plate appearances. He has three homers and 10 doubles among his 47 total hits in that span. Clement has also tallied 13 RBIs, 26 runs scored, a stolen base and has as many walks as strikeouts (nine) in that stretch.

He's played all over the field during his career, so it's worth looking into what positions he could play in for your fantasy league. Clement being a versatile defender means he's in the lineup regularly.

Over the past five games, he's made five starts, three at third base and one each at first base and shortstop. He hit seventh for the first two games in that stretch, then moved up to sixth for a game. Clement has hit leadoff in back-to-back games, but that also came against two left-handed pitchers.

Whatever spot Clement is hitting in, he's delivering at the plate. Of course, batting first is the better spot for his fantasy outlook, but he's producing enough otherwise to still be a good fantasy asset.

Clement needs to be rostered, and probably kept, all season in deeper redraft leagues. He's a versatile player who could be starting daily.

He's a pretty good standard league option as well, depending on how many positions he can play. Clement is likely eligible to play at a position of need for you, so adding him in standard leagues makes plenty of sense to me.

He's had an extended stretch of strong play, so I'd keep rostering him, not dropping him as soon as he has a down game or two.
