Griffin Canning and Mitch Keller Highlight Tuesday's Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitching Options

Looking at a few waiver wire pitchers to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.

We already took a look at some fantasy baseball waiver wire hitters to possibly add, and now we're back to go over some waiver wire pitchers.

We won't cover anyone who appeared in Monday's waiver wire story, or anyone who was part of the Tuesday streaming article.

Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.

Should You Add Griffin Canning?

Canning is up 5.34% so far today, bringing his overall mark to 66.39%.

Canning will start Tuesday against the Nationals, who are a pretty solid fantasy matchup for a pitcher. He faced Washington on April 28, earning a win after tossing five scoreless innings. Canning allowed four hits and three walks, while striking out five batters.

Canning has made 12 starts this season, and the Mets are 9-3 in those contests. He's 6-2 with a 2.90 earned run average over 59 innings. Canning has allowed 21 runs (19 earned) on 52 hits and 26 walks, while striking out 57 batters.

He's only allowed more than three earned runs in one start this season. Canning had seven punchouts over six scoreless innings against the Dodgers in his last start, so you can see why he'd be a good streaming option in a better matchup today.

I'd call Canning a must-start pitcher in deeper redraft leagues for Tuesday. The matchup is favorable, he's pitched well against them already this season and he's coming off a great start. Everything is lining up for Canning to deliver a good fantasy total today.

For those reasons, I'd also consider Canning as a streaming option in standard redraft leagues. He's not a must-start player in those leagues, but he's probably one of the better options available to you.

Should You Add Emerson Hancock?

Hancock was added in 4.87% of fantasy leagues and is now up to 15.43% overall.

He made his 11th start of the season on Monday against the Diamondbacks. Hancock worked five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out three.

He did a nice job of limiting runs despite having a bunch of runners reach against him. In a tougher matchup, I think fantasy owners should be pleased with Hancock's showing on Monday.

Things get a bit easier for his next scheduled start, as he is lined up to face the Guardians. He has not faced them yet in 2025, but it's a pretty good matchup on paper.

Hancock is 2-2 with a 5.04 ERA across 55 1/3 innings this season. His ERA would be much lower if he didn't allow six runs in one start and seven in another. Hancock has allowed three or less runs in every other start he's made this season.

He's allowed 31 total runs on 63 hits and 20 walks, while striking out 41 batters. Hancock has covered 55 1/3 innings.

All things considered, Hancock has pitched pretty well this season. He's prone to the occasional blowup start, but is otherwise a pretty solid fantasy option.

He's covered at least five innings in all but two starts, but he's also topped out at six innings (four times). He gives up too many hits and walks, but limits runs well and strikes out enough batters to have some fantasy appeal.

I'd be fine adding Hancock in deeper leagues in preparation for his next start. He'll be a streaming option in all leagues for that contest.

A matchup against the Cubs could come after that for Hancock. I wouldn't want to start him in standard leagues for that outing, but maybe would consider him in deeper leagues, if he pitches well in his start between now and then.

Hancock is likely to remain a good deep-league starting option for the season, as long as he sticks in the rotation. He could be streamed in standard leagues in his favorable matchups too.

Should You Add Shane Smith?

Smith is another streaming option on Tuesday. He's rostered in 49.03% of leagues after a 4.13% increase.

Smith has been fantastic across 12 starts this season. He's got a 2.45 ERA over 62 1/3 innings. A terrible White Sox team has won just three of those games he's pitched in, and only gotten Smith two wins (he has three losses).

The 25-year-old righty has allowed 24 runs (17 earned) on 46 hits and 25 walks, while striking out 60 batters. There's a lot of good in those numbers, but his team is holding him back from being a bigger fantasy asset.

Smith will face the Astros on Tuesday. Houston isn't as imposing a lineup as they have been in years past. Smith hasn't faced them yet this season.

I like the idea of starting Smith in deeper leagues today. The matchup is fine, but I'm more inclined to start him based on what he's done on the mound this season. He's not a must-start pitcher, but that's mostly because of the team he's pitching for.

I wouldn't mind streaming Smith in standard leagues as well today. Again, I'm trusting his season numbers more than anything.

Should You Add Mitch Keller?

Keller is rostered in 65% of leagues right now. He will make a start on Tuesday as well, taking on the Marlins.

Keller is in a similar boat to Smith, or at least he was until his last start. Keller allowed six runs over 6 1/3 innings against Houston, and that ballooned his ERA to 4.13 - it was 3.73 coming into that start.

The Pirates are 3-10 over his 13 starts this season. Keller is 1-8 with a 4.13 ERA now. He's allowed 38 runs (35 earned) on 77 hits and 20 walks, while striking out 61 batters.

He's being added today because of his favorable matchup against the Marlins. Keller faced them for his first start of the season back on March 28. He got the win after allowing just one run on five hits and a walk over six innings. Keller struck out four batters in that contest.

I like the idea of starting Keller in deeper leagues today. The matchup is strong and he's already shut Miami down once this season.

I'd consider Keller in standard leagues too, but not call him a must-start pitcher, mostly because of his last start. He should have a pretty solid floor, and has a fairly high ceiling for tonight, so he's maybe an underrated streaming option.

Should You Add Shelby Miller?

Miller is rostered in 28% of leagues right now, and that's slowly trending up in June.

I'm bringing Miller up today after Justin Martinez left the D-Backs' Monday game. He already has dealt with an injury this season, and now has elbow tightness. Another injured list stint is likely coming, and it's possible Martinez misses extended time. That could put Miller back into the closer role for Arizona.

Miller has been really good across 27 appearances for the Diamondbacks. He has a 3-1 record, six saves, three blown saves and eight holds. Across 26 2/3 innings, Miller has allowed seven runs (five earned) on 18 hits and 11 walks, while striking out 27 batters.

The Diamondbacks are a good enough team to make their closer a good fantasy asset. With Martinez injured again, and A.J. Puk already on the injured list, Miller is most likely going to take over as the No. 1 closer.

We'll have a better idea of the severity of Martinez's injury soon, at which point we can really assess Miller's fantasy outlook. In anticipation of what could come, I'd add Miller in some deeper redraft leagues, then maybe add him in all deeper leagues if Martinez is out a long time.
