Is Luis Robert Jr. or Maikel Garcia the Better Fantasy Baseball Waiver Target?

Looking at a few waiver wire hitters to consider adding in fantasy baseball leagues.

It's time for another fantasy baseball waiver wire story on hitters. We'll check out hitters in another article, so check back for that later.

Here are the waiver wire stories from earlier in the week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Check out the top fantasy baseball waiver wire options everyday on FantasySP.

Should You Add Luis Robert Jr.?

Robert is up 2.86% today, bringing his overall mark to 72.57%. His season-long numbers are not great, but he's been better of late.

In 29 games and 124 plate appearances overall, Robert has a .183 average and .295 on-base percentage. He has three doubles and four home runs among his 19 total knocks, along with 17 walks, 13 stolen bases, 16 runs scored and 38 strikeouts. He's also been caught stealing five times.

Robert is on a six-game hitting streak. He has eight total hits, a .333 average and .429 OBP over that span. Two of his homers and one of his doubles came in that stretch. Robert also has seven RBIs, six stolen bases, four walks, six runs scored and eight strikeouts over that stretch.

I'm not a huge fan of Robert as a fantasy asset, and if you're a frequent reader here, you already know that. I think he's a better deep-league asset, and that's where his own percentage has been trending. When he's hot at the plate, like he is now, he's a fine option in standard leagues, so fantasy owners are getting it right with Robert.

He's not a must-add waiver add, but he was due to bounce back from his slow start at some point. Robert will likely eventually post numbers between his recent hot streak and overall down numbers this season.

Until he cools off, Robert can be started in any fantasy league though. I'd only add him in standard leagues if I had a roster spot to play with, or had a need for a fantasy outfielder.

Should You Add Kyle Stowers?

Stowers is up 1.92% today and is sitting at 18.75% overall.

In 28 games and 111 plate appearances, Stowers has a .323 average and .396 OBP. He's got four doubles and homers and a triple among his 31 total knocks. Stowers also has 19 RBIs, two stolen bases, 12 walks, 15 runs scored and 31 strikeouts on the season.

He's getting his first crack at a full-time MLB role with the Marlins, and he's taking advantage of things so far. Stowers is starting against right-handed pitchers, and that affords him plenty of opportunities to put up fantasy points.

He's honestly pretty undervalued and underrated looking at his season-long numbers. Being on the Marlins isn't doing him any favors, but Stowers has done enough to be rostered in way more leagues.

I'd definitely be a fan of adding Stowers in deeper leagues, even if it's just until his hot hitting cools off. We don't know what to expect since he's never gotten consistent playing time, so Stowers could remain a solid fantasy asset all season.

Add him in deeper leagues before it's too late.

Should You Add Eli White?

White is another really overlooked fantasy asset right now. He's sitting at 8% rostered after being unowned on April 26.

In 22 games and 49 plate appearances this season, White has a .311 average and .367 OBP. He's collected five doubles, a triple and two homers among his 14 total knocks, along with seven RBIs, two stolen bases, four walks, 14 runs scored and 10 strikeouts.

He doesn't have a huge sample size, but he's been red hot at the plate of late. White has started and played full games in his past seven appearances, and the Braves are 5-2 in that stretch. White has 10 total hits (including four doubles, two homers and one triple), seven RBIs, a stolen base, a walk, nine runs scored and four punchouts in that span.

White didn't start on Thursday, but had been in the lineup in the team's seven previous games. Thursday looks like a day off, not a possible trend to be worried about.

The 30-year-old outfielder has a career .203 average and .276 OBP, so regression is definitely coming at some point. While he's hitting as well as he is though, White should be utilized in some fantasy leagues.

I think he deserves to be rostered in more deeper leagues, at least until his bat cools off. You might as well take advantage of things while you can, but keep in mind that he's just a short-term add, not someone you need to add and shake up your roster for.

Assess your fantasy team and see if you have room to add and utilize White for a little while.

Should You Add Maikel Garcia?

I just got done writing about Garcia as a fantasy hitter to sell high on, but at the same time, believe he needs to be rostered in more leagues. He's up 1.68% and is rostered in 69.47% of leagues now.

He has a .296 average and .353 OBP across 31 games and 119 plate appearances so far. Garcia has nine doubles and two homers among his 32 total knocks, along with 11 RBIs, seven stolen bases, 10 walks, 12 runs scored and 18 strikeouts.

He was good in 2023, posting a .272 average and .323 OBP, but regressed to a .231 average and .281 OBP in 2024. Garcia is trending toward a repeat of 2023 at this point, and that makes him a good fantasy asset.

Garcia has played games at third base, second base, shortstop and center and right field so far, so he might also have fantasy eligibility at several spots. That just adds more fantasy value to his name.

I think Garcia is undervalued and not rostered in enough standard leagues. I called him a sell-high candidate, which means he's enjoying a big fantasy season. I'm honestly shocked he's not owned in more leagues.

Scoop him up in standard leagues and play him until his bat cools off. He might remain a standard league keeper all season, at worst being a bench option. I'd take that gamble if I had a roster spot to play with.

Should You Add Jeff McNeil?

McNeil is owned in just 11% of fantasy leagues. The second baseman opened the season on the injured list, so he's not heavily owned yet.

In five games and 22 plate appearances, McNeil has a .316 average and .364 OBP. He's got a homer and triple among his six knocks, along with three RBIs, a run scored and two walks and strikeouts.

He's had productive fantasy seasons in the past, but has regressed since an elite 2022 season. In 129 games in 2024, McNeil had a .238 average and .308 OBP, with 38 extra-base hits among 101 hits, 44 RBIs, five stolen bases, 57 runs scored, 35 walks and 68 strikeouts.

McNeil doesn't hurt his fantasy value much with strikeouts, and he can fill the box score pretty well. He's hit between sixth and eighth in his most recent starts.

McNeil isn't playing every game, so that's a knock on his fantasy value. The Mets could also be trying to ease him back into competition, so in time he could start more often, especially if he keeps hitting this well.

I'd be fine adding McNeil in some deeper fantasy redraft leagues. He's produced enough in his career to at least stash in some deeper setups. There's a chance he becomes a daily starter for you, and having a bigger name, you might want to make the move for him soon in case his own percentage takes off.
