Are Clarke Schmidt and Bobby Miller Good Fantasy Baseball Streamers Fresh Off the IL?
Six starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.
Every pitcher today fits the streamer mold nicely. That's not always the case, as we sometimes must go outside the box with guys who are owned in more leagues or pitchers against teams who don't really present great matchups. Today, though, we've got decent pitchers against bad offensive teams: pure streaming.
Let's look at six starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchup. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.
Osvaldo Bido, Athletics @ Chicago White Sox
Bido is good with strikeouts but also walks a few too many guys. That's been true in his short 2025 work as well, and though he has gotten hit a little hard, Bido has allowed just five earned runs in 15 innings.
The White Sox are the team to come after with opposing pitchers. They were the worst team in baseball last year, and they have started this season 4-12, worse than every group except for the Rockies. Their bottom-level offense is a major reason why.
Bido is a mid-level streamer with some upside. His own work is good enough to have him on the streaming radar, and the White Sox are the perfect target for those mid-level pitchers.
Nick Martinez, Cincinnati Reds vs. Seattle Mariners
Martinez began his career well below average with strikeouts, but since returning in 2022 from a four-year stint in Japan, he has an average K rate while being better than average with walks. Despite a rough start to 2025, Martinez has been an above-average pitcher since 2022.
Seattle is in the bottom 10 in most offensive box stats, and their hitters have struck out the 11th most. The Mariners were in the same situation last year, failing in most areas but showing a little power along the way. They are one of our favorite targets right now.
Martinez is a mid-level streamer. This is much like Bido's situation: a decent pitcher with a really good matchup.
Bobby Miller, Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies
Colorado is playing away from home, so they make their way back to our target list. It really is that simple: go after the Rockies when they play on the road and avoid targeting them when they are at Coors Field.
Miller is making his first start of the season after beginning the year on the IL. He has a career walk rate and strikeout rate both just a hair higher than average, but Miller has also gotten hit a little hard at times; a big spike in his walk rate last season didn't help.
Miller is a mid-level streamer. He's been a little inconsistent in 180.1 innings, and being that this is his first start of the year, it's tough to know what to expect. The matchup makes him intriguing, though.
Mitchell Parker, Washington Nationals @ Pittsburgh Pirates
Parker has started the season well from a results standpoint: five runs allowed (four earned) in 18.1 innings and a 2-0 record in three starts. He has just 10 strikeouts while walking eight, though, numbers that point toward less success moving forward. Parker hasn't given up a home run yet after allowing one every 8.4 innings last season.
The Pirates probably aren't the team that's going to blow Parker up, though. They are another bottom squad and favorite target, along with the White Sox, Rockies, and Mariners today. Pittsburgh is last in home runs and tied for third in most batter strikeouts; that's just the tip of the iceberg for a bottom-five offense.
Parker is a low- to mid-level streamer. He fits the same mold as the previous guys, but Parker doesn't strike out as many batters, so he has a lower ceiling.
Clarke Schmidt, New York Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals
Like Miller, Schmidt is making his first start after beginning the season on the IL. He's generally a little better than average with strikeouts and right at average with walks, though he was even better with Ks last year. Schmidt has a better ceiling than a lot of streamers that end up here.
The Royals had a strong offense last season, but they have started 2025 poorly. They are in the bottom 10 in most offensive box stats, including being tied with Pittsburgh and the Rockies for the fewest home runs.
Schmidt is a mid- to high-level streamer. It's his first start, so it's best to temper expectations and expect a shorter outing, but his work plus the matchup portends good things for Schmidt.
Jose Soriano, Los Angeles Angels @ Texas Rangers
Soriano has been a regular here this season: he was also listed as a streamer in his first start against the White Sox and his most recent start against the Rays. He allowed just one run in 14.2 innings in those two games, but Soriano gave up five runs in 5.1 innings against Cleveland in his second start.
Texas might seem like a surprise team at the bottom given some of the names in their lineup, but they were a bottom-10 offense in 2024 and have stayed in the basement early this season. While it wouldn't be a surprise to see them improve, the Rangers stand out as a team to target right now.
Soriano is a mid-level streamer. He's better than average with strikeouts but walks way too many guys, so there's always the chance at a low floor if he loses his control. Soriano does have a nice ceiling, though.
