Jesse Scholtens lands on the injured list with a wrist strain, pausing a decent run in the Rays' rotation.
The first-place Rays (36-20) placed Scholtens on the 15-day injured list on May 26 due to a right wrist strain. Prior to the injury, the 32-year-old right-hander had posted a 4.02 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 35.8 innings this season. With Craig Kimbrel recently activated to take his roster spot, Scholtens is completely sidelined for the foreseeable future.
Before hitting the shelf, our models projected Scholtens to settle into a 4.65 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP over the rest of the season. His 4.02 ERA this year is a notable step up from his 5.47 career mark, though a 4.68 ERA over his last 30 days suggests some regression was already creeping in. He is worth holding in deep leagues if you have an open IL slot, but expect some regression once he returns.
With Scholtens sidelined, our weekly projection forecasts zero innings and zero fantasy points for the upcoming matchups against the Tigers and Marlins. He is currently unranked on the active depth chart and will not make a start this week. Verdict: Sit.
