Mets left-hander Steven Matz took a no-decision after giving up three runs on nine hits with no walks and five strikeouts in five innings Friday vs. the A's.
Spin: Matz fired four innings of one-run ball before yielding a pair in the fifth, which turned out to be his final inning of work. He's been knocked around in his past three starts, yielding 15 runs on 25 hits and two walks in 10 1/3 innings (13.06 ERA). The southpaw has not found his swing-and-miss stuff since being activated from the disabled list in mid-June (6.1 K/9 in '17 vs. 8.2 for career), and he's also allowed eight homers in just 44 1/3 innings this season (1.6 HR/9). Matz could rebound in his next scheduled start July 26 against the light-hitting Padres at pitcher-friendly Petco Park, but he has not yet looked like the hurler who posted a 3.16 ERA in 28 starts from '15-16.
Steven Matz surrendered three runs over five innings in a no-decision against the Athletics on Friday. Matz was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the fifth inning, much to his dismay. [...]
If the Mets hold a fire sale at the trade deadline, teams could ask about talented lefty Steven Matz.
