Monday Night Fantasy Football Start Decisions and Rankings: Chase Brown, Courtland Sutton and More
Breaking down the week 4 Monday night games between the Jets/Dolphins and Bengals/Broncos.
Week 4 of the NFL season wraps up with a pair of Monday night football games. Let's go over the top fantasy football players at each offensive position.
The Jets and Dolphins will square off in one game, while the Bengals and Broncos meet in another.
Use the FantasySP start/sit tool for help with any last-minute lineup decisions.
Quarterbacks
Justin Fields is back for the Jets, and he'll go up against Tua Tagovailoa in one matchup. Jake Browning will make another start for the Bengals, while Bo Nix starts for the Broncos.
So far this season, Fields has been the best fantasy quarterback of that quartet. None of them have been all that good though.
Fields has the best matchup on paper, as the Dolphins have been one of the worst defenses so far when it comes to slowing opposing quarterbacks. Tagovailoa also has an above-average matchup tonight. Nix has a pretty average test, while Browning has the toughest matchup available.
Fields is projected for 20 fantasy points tonight. Nix is set for 18 points, while Tagovailoa is at 15 and Browning is at just 11.
Fields was my top-ranked quarterback between the four Monday night options, sitting at No. 11 overall. Nix was 14th, Tagovailoa was 16th and Browning was 31st.
Running Backs
De'Von Achane, Breece Hall, J.K. Dobbins and Chase Brown are the four lead backs from tonight's games. Ollie Gordon, Braelon Allen, and RJ Harvey are among the top backups. Samaje Perine, Isaiah Davis and Tyler Badie are even deeper options.
The Denver backs have the best matchup possible tonight, as the Bengals have been run over by running backs. The Jets' backs have the next most favorable matchup, while the Bengals and Dolphins' backs each have above-average matchups too. It could be a great night for fantasy backs.
The FantasySP projections had Achane as the top-projected PPR back for week 4. Hall is at 15 points, Dobbins 14, Brown 12, Harvey eight, Gordon five and Allen four.
I had Achane as my No. 3 fantasy back for week 4. Hall was 13th, while Dobbins was 14th. Brown checked in at No. 21, and was the last back from tonight's game in my top 30.
After those lead backs, I'd take: Gordon, Allen, Harvey, Perine, Badie and Davis. Gordon, Allen and Harvey are the only ones worth deep-league starts - Perine, Badie and Davis should be avoided.
Wide Receivers
There's some decent receivers in action tonight.
Miami is led by Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, while Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Dee Eskridge are worth mentioning. Garrett Wilson leads the Jets, with help from Tyler Johnson, Arian Smith, Josh Reynolds and Allen Lazard.
Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are the Bengals' top receivers. Andrei Iosivas and Mitchell Tinsley have also briefly played this season. Denver is led by Courtland Sutton, with help from Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims, Pat Bryant and Trent Sherfield Sr.
The Miami wideouts have the best matchup of the day, but it's just above average. The Broncos' wideouts have an average matchup, while the Jets and Bengals groups each have below-average matchups.
Chase is projected for 17 PPR points tonight. Sutton and Hill are at 16 PPR points each, Wilson 15, Waddle 12, Higgins nine, Franklin eight and Mims seven - nobody else made the top 70.
Chase was my top-ranked wideout from the two games tonight, checking in at No. 7 overall. Wilson was 14th, Hill 16th, Sutton 20th and Waddle 27th - nobody else made my top 30.
After that, I'd go with: Higgins, Franklin, Washington, Mims, Johnson, Iosivas, Smith, Sherfield, Westbrook-Ikhine, Reynolds, Lazard, Eskridge, Bryant and Tinsley.
Tight Ends
There's not too many good fantasy tight end options playing tonight.
Noah Fant is out with a concussion, so Drew Sample and Mike Gesicki will lead the Bengals. Evan Engram is the Broncos' top tight end, with Adam Trautman and Lucas Krull as some other options.
Mason Taylor is the lead tight end for New York. Jeremy Ruckert is the No. 2 guy. Darren Waller will make his season debut for the Dolphins - Julian Hill and Tanner Conner have led the team so far.
The Jets' tight ends have the best matchup, as the Dolphins were the third-worst defense against fantasy tight ends coming into the week. The Broncos' tight ends also have a really favorable matchup. The tight ends for the Dolphins and Bengals have below-average matchups.
Engram is the only fantasy tight end from tonight's games to show up on the FantasySP projection page, which covers 24 tight ends. He's set for seven PPR fantasy points.
I had Engram as my No. 20 fantasy tight end for week 4. Waller was No. 24 for me. Fant was ranked 25th, but obviously isn't now after he's been ruled out.
After those two, I'd take: Taylor, Gesicki, Conner, Trautman, Ruckert, Sample, Krull and Hill.
Kickers
Riley Patterson is the kicker for the Dolphins, while Nick Folk boots it for the Jets. Wil Lutz kicks for the Broncos, and Evan McPherson is the Bengals' kicker.
Folk is 5-for-5 on his field goals and has made all six of his extra points as well. He's made two field goals over 50 yards.
Patterson has made his only two field goals and all six of his extra points. His long field goal is just 44 yards.
McPherson is perfect on his three field goals and seven extra points. His longest field goal has been 45 yards.
Lutz is the only kicker from tonight's game who has missed a kick. He is 4-for-5 on his field goals and has made all eight of his extra points.
Lutz and Patterson are each projected for eight fantasy points. McPherson and Folk are each projected for seven points.
Both games have over/under marks of 44.5, so not a ton of scoring is expected. I have the Dolphins and Broncos winning fairly low-scoring contests, so I favor their kickers.
I'd take Lutz first, then Patterson. After that, I'd go McPherson, then Folk. If you need a few points to swing your fantasy matchup, this is how I'd rank tonight's kickers.
Defenses/Special Teams
The Broncos' D/ST is projected for nine fantasy points tonight, which is the most among week 4 D/STs. I too like their matchup after Browning's struggles last week, but there's still enough playmakers on that offense to pose a threat.
The Jets' D/ST is projected for six fantasy points. Miami's offense hasn't been very good yet, but again, there's enough playmakers around to put up some points still.
The Dolphins' D/ST is set for six points as well. The Jets' offense lacks the playmakers tonight's other teams have, but a dual-threat QB and a couple offensive weapons are sometimes enough anyways.
The Bengals' D/ST is projected for just four fantasy points. Denver probably has the best offense, right now, of any of tonight's teams, so this projection makes sense.
I'd actually rank the four D/STs in the order I just listed them: Broncos, Jets, Dolphins and Bengals. None of them really stand out as elite options, but there's enough reasons to start any of them tonight. The only one I'd really try to stay away from is the Bengals' D/ST.
