Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Christian Scott, Tommy White Headline Thursday Pickups

The MLB season resumes today, creating two streaming opportunities. Tommy White and Owen Murphy are two more possible waiver wire options to consider adding today.

The MLB regular season returns today, but just in the form of one game. We have some waiver wire options to consider from that game, and more, so let's put together another article here.

We will discuss some streaming starting pitchers, a prospect and more!

Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!

Christian Scott - New York Mets

Scott gets the nod against the Phillies in today's lone game. It's an OK matchup on paper, and not nearly the matchup it was early on this season. Scott is rostered in roughly 33% of fantasy baseball leagues right now.

He has made 12 starts this season, and sits with a 2-1 record and 3.17 earned run average, so he's pitched pretty well. Scott has worked 54 innings, allowing 20 runs (19 earned) on 44 hits and 26 walks. He has 65 strikeouts so far.

Scott faced the Phillies back on June 27, working 4 1/3 innings, but allowing just two runs on three hits and two walks. He also struck out six batters, so he has a solid outlook for today.

He has only topped five innings in five starts, and he hasn't gone more than 5 2/3 innings yet, so that limits Scott's fantasy ceiling a bit. I still like the matchup today, and because this is the only game of the day, Scott is a deep-league or standard league streaming option today.

Aaron Nola - Philadelphia Phillies

Of course, Nola is on the other end of the pitching matchup for today's game. He has a pretty good matchup against the Mets. Nola is owned in about 53% of leagues right now.

He has started 19 games this season. Nola is 3-6 so far with a 5.75 ERA over 97 innings. He's allowed 64 runs (62 earned) on 108 hits and 31 walks. Nola has 102 strikeouts so far.

Nola faced the Mets back on June 18, working five innings in that one. He allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk, while striking out six.

Nola has been more so-so, or below average, this season, and his ERA shows that. The matchup is good today, but given his season results, he's a better deep-league asset in my eyes. Again though, with only one game being played, Nola becomes a standard league streaming option as well.

Tommy White - Athletics

White is getting called up by the Athletics, so that's why he is on the rise as a fantasy asset. He is rostered in just 2% of leagues right now, but that's on the rise now.

He is the team's No. 7 prospect. The corner infielder is 23 years old, stands 6-feet tall and weighs 220 pounds. He was drafted 40th overall just two summers ago and wasn't expected to debut until 2027.

Across three minor league seasons, White has a .279 average and .337 on-base percentage. He has played in 194 games, collecting 218 hits in that timeframe. White has 42 doubles, 24 home runs and two triples among the hits, along with 129 RBIs, 117 runs scored, 58 walks, 123 strikeouts and five stolen bases.

In 76 combined games at Double-A and Triple-A this year, White had a .303 average and .353 OBP. The Athletics decided he'd shown enough in the minor leagues, and are calling him up earlier than expected.

He's sure to start often while in the big leagues. Jonah Heim has been starting at first base, while Joshua Kuroda-Grauer has been at third most often of late. The Athletics can shift the lineup and positions around to get White some chances to start. Again, I'd expect him to get enough opportunities if the team is willing to call him up today.

White is worth adding in some deeper redraft leagues today, and he's now usable in dynasty leagues where he's been stashed. Keep tabs on him and be ready to add him in more leagues if he hits the ground running in the big leagues.

Owen Murphy - Atlanta Braves

Murphy is scheduled to start on Saturday, so he is rising now. He is owned in roughly 3% of leagues right now.

He's set to face the Rangers, who are a pretty solid matchup on paper. We just don't know a ton about Murphy yet.

The 22-year-old righty got called up earlier this month, and has appeared in two games since. He worked the 10th inning in his first game, allowing two runs (one earned) on a hit and a hit batter - he struck out one in that appearance. Murphy tossed three scoreless innings in relief in his last appearance, and struck out three along the way - he didn't allow a baserunner.

He started in the minor leagues, so don't be too worried about a pitch count or anything like that. Murphy might only top out at five or so innings, unless he's pitching super well, so that's something to keep in mind.

After his last appearance and going into a solid matchup, Murphy will be worth streaming on Saturday. Add him today if you are interested in making that move, but only do it in deeper fantasy leagues, as we'll have a full complement of games and pitchers to choose from that day.
