Joshua Kuroda-Grauer lands on the 10-day IL following emergency surgery

Joshua Kuroda-Grauer has been a sensational addition to the Athletics since his promotion, hitting .417 with seven doubles over his last 30 games. However, a sudden medical emergency resulted in him being placed on the 10-day injured list. The Athletics currently sit in fourth place in the AL West with a 43-59 record, and losing their primary third baseman deals a major blow to their infield depth as Alika Williams and others step in to cover the vacancy.

The rookie's torrid early stretch featured a .417 batting average and a .583 slugging percentage through his first 16 major league games, easily outperforming his modest baseline season projections. While his elite bat-to-ball skills and 10-day IL designation suggest a strong foundation for when he returns, expecting him to maintain a .400-plus batting average over a full second half was always an unrealistic regression risk.

Looking at the immediate schedule, the Athletics face a six-game road trip featuring matchups against Zebby Matthews and Joe Ryan of the Minnesota Twins. With Matthews holding a 5.40 ERA and 1.34 WHIP, and Ryan sporting a 3.86 ERA and 1.11 WHIP, the upcoming pitching tests are a mixed bag. Unfortunately, because Kuroda-Grauer is sidelined with his injury and unavailable for action this week, fantasy managers must leave him out of starting lineups. Drop.
