From veteran power bats to a fast-rising rookie, these waiver wire hitters are making strong cases for fantasy roster spots.
Let's go over our second round of fantasy baseball waiver wire options this week!
Here is the first hitter waiver wire article we did. Also be sure to check out Tuesday's starting pitcher streaming story.
Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Willi Castro and Cole Carrigg - Colorado Rockies
Castro has been added in a whopping 9.55% of fantasy baseball leagues today. He sits at 39.93% overall. Carrigg has been added in 2.73% of leagues, which brings his overall mark to 29.35%.
Castro has six hits over his past two games, including two home runs on Sunday. He had seven RBIs on Sunday, plus three runs scored.
Across 61 games and 239 plate appearances this season, Castro has a .282 average and .356 on-base percentage. He has 60 total hits, including 11 doubles and five home runs. Castro has 29 RBIs, 31 runs scored, 22 walks, five stolen bases and 60 strikeouts.
Castro can play all over the field, so that adds fantasy value to his name. He's trending up right now, but should top out as a deep-league fantasy asset. He could be streamed in some standard leagues, but don't expect him to be around for too long, as his hot hitting will fade in time.
Carrigg has been in the big leagues for just a week. He has just 30 plate appearances so far, collecting seven hits and three walks. He has three of those hits over his past two appearances, and he homered for a third time on Monday.
Carrigg has eight RBIs, six runs scored, four extra-base hits and six strikeouts overall. He's starting daily and hitting sixth. It's not the best spot for his fantasy outlook, but he's producing enough right now to add in more leagues.
The outfielder is worth some adds in deeper fantasy leagues. If he keeps hitting, he could eventually work into some standard leagues, so he's worth tracking.
Eugenio Suarez - Cincinnati Reds
Suarez is sitting at 70% rostered right now. He was at 66% two days ago, so he's back on the rise.
Suarez started the season slow and also spent time on the injured list. He's been a disappointment, but he seems to be trending up now.
Over his past six games, Suarez has eight hits. He homered twice on Monday, and had another homer a few games ago. Suarez has two doubles in that timeframe as well.
Across 45 games and 178 plate appearances this season, Suarez has a .222 average and .287 OBP, which are much lower than his career marks. He has 36 total hits, including seven doubles and home runs. Suarez has 25 RBIs, 16 runs scored, 15 walks and 56 strikeouts.
The third baseman can be a really good fantasy asset when he's going well at the plate. Suarez is a big power threat, but he's struggled most of this season. He appears to be figuring things out now, so he's back on the rise as a fantasy asset.
Add him back in some standard leagues, especially if you need some help at third base. Maybe Suarez can be the big-time power threat he's been in the past again soon, so don't wait too long to add him.
Paul Goldschmidt - New York Yankees
Goldschmidt is up 3.41%, and his overall mark is now 39.93%.
He's starting to play more regularly, and Goldy is producing plenty too. Goldschmidt has a seven-game hitting streak going right now, and has 12 knocks over that span. He had a three-hit game on Sunday and has plenty of other production over that span.
Goldschmidt has really been good most of the season, but he just hadn't been playing enough to own in more fantasy leagues. He has played in 45 games and gotten 175 plate appearances so far.
He has a .295 average and .366 OBP, along with 31 RBIs, 24 runs scored, 15 walks, a stolen base and 31 strikeouts. Goldy has 46 total hits, including nine home runs, eight doubles and a triple.
Goldschmidt is a pretty good fantasy asset now that he's playing a bit more. That means he's worth adding and utilizing in more leagues right now. Pick him up in some deeper leagues and enjoy his fantasy success for as long as he's producing. I think he will be avoided in most standard leagues, as there's plenty of fantasy first baseman to go around - he could be a short-term option though, so don't be afraid to add him in that capacity.
