Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Royce Lewis, Noelvi Marte Headline Top Hitter Adds
Lewis and Marte are finding their swings, Zack Gelof stays red hot, and top prospect Cooper Pratt nears his MLB debut.
Let's open a new week by going over some fantasy baseball waiver wire options. We'll look at hitters in this article.
Check back later for a waiver wire story on pitchers, then weekly projections and more waiver wire/streaming options.
Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Royce Lewis - Minnesota Twins
Lewis is up 12.44% today, and sits at 39.93% overall.
Lewis was sent down to the minor leagues in mid-May, and called back up on June 6. He has a hit in all but one game since, and that includes three home runs and two doubles among 11 total knocks.
The third baseman still only has a .211 average and .296 on-base percentage for the season across 39 games and 152 plate appearances, which explains why he was sent down a couple weeks ago. Lewis has six homers and five doubles among his 28 total knocks, plus 18 RBIs, 15 runs scored, four stolen bases, 15 walks and 41 strikeouts.
Lewis is also getting some looks at first and second base, so added position eligibility there down the line will add fantasy value to his name. He can be a very good fantasy asset when he's hitting well, like he is now.
Injuries remain an issue with him, so I like him best in deeper fantasy leagues. He's worth watching and maybe streaming in standard leagues, especially if you have a roster spot to play with.
Noelvi Marte - Cincinnati Reds
Marte has been added in 5.42% of leagues, which brings his overall mark to 35.52%.
He too was sent down earlier in the season. Marte enters the new week on a four-game hitting streak, with five knocks over that span. He has a homer in three straight games, plus a double, three RBIs, three runs scored, no walks and two strikeouts.
Marte has a .218 average and .271 OBP over 20 games and 59 plate appearances this season. He has all his extra-base hits in the past four contests, and has 12 hits overall this season. Marte also has three RBIs, seven runs scored, four stolen bases and walks and 15 strikeouts.
He wasn't given much of a chance early this season, but is starting to trend up now. Marte was a big-time draft bust early on, but might be making up for that slow start now.
Marte is an outfielder, so he's not a super hot commodity since that's a stacked fantasy position. He is worth re-adding in some deeper leagues today, and could be worth streaming in standard leagues if he keeps mashing at the plate.
Cooper Pratt - Milwaukee Brewers
Pratt is rostered in about 3% of leagues at the moment. He is expected to be called up and in the starting lineup on Tuesday, so he's rightfully being added.
Pratt is the No. 63 prospect in baseball, and signed an eight-year extension earlier this year, so there's some hype around the primary shortstop. The 21-year-old was a sixth-round pick of the Brewers back in 2023.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Pratt is a 55 overall graded prospect. His best tool is his arm and fielding (60). Pratt has 50s in hitting and running and a 45 in power.
Across parts of four minor league seasons, Pratt has a .256 average and .354 OBP over 286 games. He has 269 hits, including 45 doubles, 22 home runs and nine triples. Pratt has 147 RBIs, 170 runs scored, 148 walks, 79 stolen bases and 209 strikeouts.
Pratt has decent numbers at the plate as a prospect, but is more known for his defense. That explains a bit why Pratt isn't being added in even more fantasy leagues right now. I do expect his own percentage to rise quite a bit before he debuts on Tuesday.
For now, he's just a deep-league fantasy asset. He's someone to keep an eye on in case he takes off after debuting. Pratt should play daily at shortstop or third base, so keep tabs on him and be ready to add him if he excels early on.
Zack Gelof - Athletics
Gelof is owned in 46.76% of leagues after being scooped up in 6.42% of leagues so far today.
He is riding an 18-game hitting streak right now, and has 25 total hits in that span. Gelof has six doubles and three homers among the hits, plus eight RBIs, 10 runs scored, a stolen base, three walks and 21 strikeouts.
Gelof is up to a .276 average and .293 OBP over 55 games and 200 plate appearances on the season - those marks are well above his .234 average and .293 OBP for his career. He has 51 total knocks, including nine doubles and homers, plus a triple, 25 RBIs, 31 runs scored, seven stolen bases, 11 walks and 51 strikeouts.
Gelof has played second and third plus, plus center and right field, so check into what spots he can play - the more, the better. That position versatility, plus the red-hot hitting he is delivering right now, makes Gelof a sneaky-good fantasy asset.
I like him in most deeper leagues, and think he could even be utilized in some standard leagues, although I'd only treat him as a short-term option in those formats. Utilize Gelof before he cools off.
