Fantasy Baseball Drop Candidates: 5 Players to Move On From

These five players are losing fantasy value fast and could be worth cutting for better waiver wire options.

We have looked at fantasy baseball waiver wire pitchers and hitters to add on Friday, and are here now to discuss some droppable assets.

Here's the last drop story we did. We won't include anyone from that article today.

More droppable player data can be located on the waiver wire trends most dropped tab, which can be found on any fantasy baseball page here at FantasySP.

Kris Bubic - Kansas City Royals

Bubic is rostered in 88% of fantasy leagues right now. He should fall after his last start though.

He only worked four innings on Thursday, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks. Bubic struck out four to work out of more trouble.

Bubic is 3-2 with a 4.11 earned run average over 50 1/3 innings so far. He's made nine starts and allowed 23 runs on 36 hits and 26 walks, while striking out 51 batters.

Bubic has regressed pretty hard from the past couple seasons. Better days should be ahead, but it's not a sure thing that he bounces back either. That makes Bubic droppable now. He's a better standard league streamer for the time being, but don't write him off for good.

Casey Schmitt - San Francisco Giants

Schmitt is sitting around 57% owned at the moment. He had briefly gone over 60% earlier this week.

He had a two-hit game on May 11, but he has just one hit over the five other games of late. Schmitt has seen his average drop below .300, and OBP drop 30 points in a little over a week.

Schmitt has a .276 average and .329 OBP over 36 games and 146 plate appearances this season, which is still solid. He has 18 RBIs, 17 runs scored, three stolen bases, six walks and 32 strikeouts.

He was never going to stay as hot as he had been in the first month-plus of the season, and now that he's falling off, fantasy owners are starting to move on. Schmitt is still a pretty good deep-league asset, but he can be let go in standard leagues.

Jorge Soler - Los Angeles Angels

Soler is trending downward of late, and sits at 50% rostered right now. He was near 60% back on May 11.

Soler has three hits over his past six games, which isn't the best production. He has 10 strikeouts in that span, which is the much bigger issue.

He has 55 strikeouts in 30 games and 170 plate appearances so far. Soler has seven doubles and eight homers among his 32 total knocks, plus 28 RBIs, 20 runs scored and 18 walks.

Soler can be a good fantasy asset when he's hitting, but when he's not, those strikeouts really show up. He's a better deep-league asset as a result, but can be a standard league streaming option when he's right at the plate. Keep tabs on Soler, but I am inclined to drop him in standard leagues for now.

Landen Roupp - San Francisco Giants

Roupp is rostered in 89% of fantasy leagues at the moment. Like Bubic though, he could fall notably after his last outing.

Roupp allowed four runs on six hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday. He struck out seven to earn some fantasy points back.

Roupp has a 3.49 ERA over nine starts this season. He is 5-4 and has allowed 21 runs (19 earned) on 35 hits and 21 walks, while striking out 58 over 49 innings.

Roupp has been a pretty good fantasy asset overall this season, but two four-run outings this month has things looking less promising. I still like him in all deeper leagues, but for now, he's just a standard league streaming option.

Christian Yelich - Milwaukee Brewers

Yelich is sitting around 95% owned right now. He's struggled with injuries of late.

He was activated from the injured list on Tuesday, but he played one game since. Yelich has missed the past two games with back soreness. There's a chance he could be put back on the IL on Friday, this time for his back injury, at which point his fantasy value could drop even more.

He's been good when healthy, posting a .291 average and .350 OBP over 16 games and 60 plate appearances this season. Yeli has four extra-base hits among his 16 total knocks, plus 10 RBIs and runs scored, three stolen bases, five walks and 16 strikeouts.

Yelich needs to be playing to have fantasy relevance. If he hits the IL again, he'll be dropped in more leagues. He is a good asset when healthy, so be watching his status closely. Don't be afraid to move on from him if you need immediate help, because Yeli isn't providing it of late.
