Best Fantasy Baseball Streaming Pitchers and Adds for Thursday
Looking for Thursday pitching help in fantasy baseball? We break down the top streaming starters and a sneaky short-term closer add.
Let's open Thursday by going over some fantasy baseball starting pitcher waiver wire/streaming options.
Check back in a bit for a waiver wire story on hitters.
Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Max Meyer - Miami Marlins
Meyer has been added in 8.13% of fantasy baseball leagues today. He's owned in 67.62% of leagues overall.
Meyer is a streaming option for Thursday. He will face the Orioles, who have some big names, but have underwhelmed on offense so far.
Meyer has been good in his first seven starts. He's 2-0 with a 2.68 earned run average over 37 innings. Meyer has allowed 12 runs (11 earned) on 25 hits and 13 walks, while striking out 40 batters along the way. He's allowed three or less runs in every start, and hasn't allowed an earned run in his past two outings.
Meyer is on the rise as a fantasy asset, and I'm surprised he isn't more owned already. He's a good option for Thursday. I like him best in deeper leagues, but would also be comfortable enough to try him in some standard leagues.
Mitch Keller - Arizona Diamondbacks
Keller is up 3.4% and is now rostered in 71.61% overall.
Keller will be starting against the Diamondbacks on Thursday. Arizona is a so-so matchup, so Keller is more on the rise for what he's done this season.
In seven starts, Keller is 3-1 with a 2.85 ERA. Over 41 innings, he's allowed 13 runs on 31 hits and 12 walks, while striking out 31 batters. He's allowed three or less runs in all but one start, and has reached six innings in all but two starts.
Keller is a good option for the day based on what he's done overall. The matchup being so-so holds him back from being a must-start streamer today. Try him in all deeper leagues and some standard leagues.
Christian Scott - New York Mets
Scott has been picked up in 4.22% of leagues, which brings his overall mark to 16.56%.
Scott gets the honor of facing the Rockies on Thursday afternoon. That's a very good matchup on paper, but the game is in Colorado, so that limits his ceiling a bit.
His first start was a rough one - he allowed five walks and a run over 1 1/3 innings. Scott bounced back with a five-inning start his last time out - he allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and no walks, while striking out eight batters.
I'm skeptical of Scott, but the matchup is right to try him in some deeper leagues. I'd look elsewhere in standard leagues, and also say he's not a must-start guy in deeper leagues.
Jake Irvin - Washington Nationals
Irvin has been added in 2.82% of leagues, and sits at 8.83% overall now.
Irvin will face the Twins on Thursday afternoon. That's a pretty solid matchup on paper, but Irvin hasn't been very good this season.
Over seven starts, Irvin is 1-4 with a 4.93 ERA over 34 2/3 innings pitched. He's allowed 21 runs (19 earned) on 30 hits and 15 walks, while striking out 39 batters.
Irvin is capable of producing a good statline, but I'd be expecting an average mark today - anything better is just gravy. I only like trying him in deeper leagues, and again, he's not a guy to even start in all deep leagues.
Rico Garcia - Baltimore Orioles
Garcia is up 3.3% today, which brings his overall mark to 44.76% overall.
Ryan Helsley is on the injured list for Baltimore, and Garcia has been filling in as the team's closer. Garcia has appeared in 18 games overall this season, and is 3-0 with two saves, a blown save and six holds.
He's allowed a run on one hit and six walks over his 17 innings. Garcia has struck out 19 batters. Those are stellar numbers, and he's flying under the radar because he wasn't getting saves until recently.
Garcia is actually worth possibly adding in deeper leagues, even if he isn't the team's closer, which he won't be forever. He's pitching well enough to be part of a lot of fantasy rosters in deeper leagues.
For now, he's got increased value while serving as the Baltimore closer. Treat him as a short-term fantasy closer, and give him some adds in deeper leagues. Be watching the status of Helsley and be ready to move off Garcia once Helsley is activated.
