Fantasy Baseball Hitters Trending Down: Roman Anthony, Teoscar Hernandez and More

After checking out fantasy baseball hitters trending up, let's now go over some hitters who have struggled of late.

We're looking at stats from July 18-23. We will only focus on notable fantasy assets.

Fewest Hits

Among qualified hitters, Marcus Semien, Lawrence Butler and Wyatt Langford all posted just one hit.

Semien hit a solo homer for his only hit, RBI and run scored, and also had two walks, a stolen base and four strikeouts. He's trending down again after moving up in the couple weeks before the break. Semien is rostered in 92% of leagues.

Butler also hit a solo home run for his lone hit, RBI and run scored. He failed to walk and struck out 10 times as well. Butler has been trending down over the past couple weeks, but is still at 90% rostered. I'd see if I could trade him away, instead of outright dropping him.

Langford singled for his only hit. He had two runs scored, no RBIs, two walks and 11 strikeouts as well. Langford is trending down and is now rostered in 88% of leagues. Like Semien and Butler, I'd look to trade him before I dropped him.

Most Strikeouts

Roman Anthony had 13 strikeouts over the timeframe we are using. He posted five hits, including three doubles, while also tallying a run and RBI and four walks. Anthony is ever so slightly trending down, but is still rostered in 74% of leagues - he'll need to cut down on the punchouts to see that own mark rise.

Mike Trout was a strikeout victim 12 times. He posted six hits, including two doubles and a homer, while also having four runs scored and RBIs and two walks. Trout is really not performing up to his lofty standards, and I'd look to trade him, because on his big name alone, Trout is worth a lot in fantasy.

Christian Yelich, Aaron Judge, Cedric Mullins, Adolis Garcia, Shohei Ohtani, Julio Rodriguez and Riley Greene all struck out 10 times.

Ohtani also made the hitter trending up story because he had five homers among his six hits, so he still was a great fantasy asset. The strikeouts might be a bit annoying, but unless you are blown away by a trade offer, there's no point in selling the two-way star.

Yelich singled for all six of his hits, while also having two runs scored, an RBI and stolen base and no walks. He's owned in just about every league and has been one of the league's better hitters for the past couple months. I see now as a time to buy a bit lower on Yeli, instead of potentially worrying about him and those Ks.

Judge has two homers among his four hits since the break. He's also posted five runs scored, three RBIs and four walks, so he's been plenty productive from a fantasy perspective despite the big K numbers. Again, only trade away Judge if you're blown away by a trade offer.

Mullins had a double among his three knocks over the timeframe we are using. He had no runs scored, one RBI and stolen base and no walks either. Mullins continues to underwhelm, and now he's down to 53% owned - and that mark might be too high looking at his season-long stats.

Garcia hit a double and a homer among his three hits. He also had three runs scored, an RBI and stolen base and no walks. Garcia has hung around 65-70% for the past couple weeks, but will fall if he repeats what he did last week.

Rodriguez singled for all six of his hits, while also having two runs scored, walks and stolen bases and one RBI. He's underwhelmed most of the season, so I'd look into trading him, because his big name will get you more value than he's actually producing right now.

Greene homered among his three knocks this week. He also had a RBI and run scored, while failing to walk. Greene is rostered in nearly every fantasy league, but is a touch overrated because of all the strikeouts and some of his inconsistencies at the plate. I think trading him away could again get you better value than he's currently offering, or at least have it be more consistent.

Lowest OBPs

Francisco Lindor had a .074 on-base percentage over 27 plate appearances in the timeframe we are using. He singled for both of his hits, and failed to walk. Lindor also had three RBIs, two runs scored, a stolen base and seven strikeouts. Now is a good time to buy a bit lower on Lindor.

Jacob Wilson got on base at a .077 clip over 26 plate appearances. He homered among his two hits and failed to walk, while also tallying two RBIs and runs scored and two strikeouts. Wilson has regressed a bit over the past couple weeks, but still owns great stats for the season - he deserves to be rostered in more than 89% of leagues, so I'd happily scoop him up if he became available. 

Tyler Soderstrom had a .150 OBP over 20 plate appearances. He doubled among his three hits and didn't walk. Soderstrom had one RBI and run scored, along with a stolen base and four strikeouts. He's trending down a bit and is owned in 86% of leagues overall.

CJ Abrams and Cam Smith each had .154 OBPs over 26 plate appearances.

Abrams doubled twice and homered once for his three hits, and he only walked once. He added four RBIs, two runs scored and six strikeouts, so it wasn't a terrible fantasy week overall. Abrams is still owned in all leagues, so it's more a time to buy a bit lower on him than anything.

Smith doubled among his three hits, while also tallying a walk, three RBIs, no runs scored, a stolen base and eight strikeouts. Smith is trending back down after his own percentage skyrocketed over the past couple weeks. I'd hold out hope in deeper leagues, but he's replaceable in standard leagues for now.

Other Hitters Trending Down

Teoscar Hernandez had a double among his four hits, but failed to score and drove in just one run. He walked once and struck out five times. Hernandez is down to 94% rostered, but I'd do my best to trade him instead of outright dropping him.

Gleyber Torres had no RBIs and just one run scored last week. He still posted seven hits, including a double. Torres had three walks and five strikeouts as well. He's at 94% owned right now, and that number could drop if his overall production doesn't pick up.

Jordan Westburg had no RBIs or runs scored. He doubled twice among his seven hits though - he failed to walk and struck out four times. Westburg is holding steady around 88% right now, but needs to produce more to stick at that mark, or go up.

Luis Garcia Jr. had no RBIs and just one run scored, despite having five hits and two walks. He doubled among the hits, while also having a stolen base and five strikeouts. Garcia is owned in 54% of leagues, but that number continues to fall - he's just a deep-league asset in my eyes now.

Jo Adell had nine strikeouts and just a .167 average last week. He had two homers among his four hits, along with four RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Adell is holding steady around 70% rostered, and would need more well-rounded numbers (not just homers) to have that own mark rise.
