Wednesday's Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitcher Streamers: Can Jacob Misiorowski Stay Hot and Outduel Paul Skenes?

Four starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.

I've been talking about the schedule turning a bit here, as MLB is the only major American sport in action after the conclusion of the NBA and NHL playoffs. Tonight is one of the few nights with anything else of note going on: the NBA Draft takes place both today and tomorrow. (Turning a two-round draft into a two-night event shows how much extra money everyone has laying around.)

With baseball maybe taking a backseat for the final time in the next two months, let's look at four starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchup. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Edward Cabrera, Miami Marlins @ San Francisco Giants

Cabrera is a very good strikeout pitcher but usually walks way too many guys, both putting him in bad spots and limiting the length of most of his outings. Of his 12 starts in 2025, Cabrera has lasted between 4 and 5 2/3 innings in 10 of them. One other was a three-inning start, and the last one was his most previous appearance, when he went 6 1/3 innings and gave up just one run with three walks and five strikeouts. It's OK to depend on Cabrera as long as you're not looking for bulk innings.

The Giants are a bottom-10 offense essentially across the board. They do draw walks, which might not go well if Cabrera gets wild, and they are in the middle of the league in batter strikeouts (about 30 Ks from 10th and 30 Ks from 20th); that doesn't set a great ceiling. They falter everywhere else, though, and that creates a good outlook for opposing pitchers.

Cabrera is a mid-level streamer. He faced San Francsico back on May 31 and threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings in a game his team won 1-0. While things probably won't go that well this time, there's reason to believe he can have another successful game here.

Richard Fitts, Boston Red Sox @ Los Angeles Angels

Three teams finished in the top 10 in home runs last season and didn't make the playoffs: the Diamondbacks, Athletics, and Red Sox. Arizona only missed the postseason by one game, while Boston finished .500; only the A's were truly bad (69-93). We have a long way to go, but things look mostly the same, with only the Athletics and Angels among those top HR teams who aren't in position to compete in the second half. For LA, a big part of the reason is that hitting for power is about the only thing they do well.

Fitts has bounced between the majors and minors a little this year. In his big-league career (2024-25), he has accumulated only 41 2/3 innings with 14 walks and 24 strikeouts. He looked a little better last year but was hit hard to start this season before being sent down. He was a decent pitcher in the minors, striking out more than a batter per inning, so there's hope he will improve as he gets more time under his belt.

Fitts is a low- to mid-level streamer. His big-league strikeout work hasn't been good, and we need to see that carry over before bumping him up too much, but the matchup is right, and Fitts has had a little success.

Jacob Misiorowski, Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

Misiorowski is owned in about 70% of leagues and doesn't fit the definition of a true streamer. He has only made two career starts, though, and isn't widely known everywhere, so it's worth checking to see if he's available in your league because there is big-time potential here. He did great strikeout work in the minors and has looked good so far in the big leagues (11 Ks in 11 innings), and the former second-round pick looks like he will now be in the majors for good.

After facing two middling teams in Minnesota and St. Louis, Misiorowski now gets one of the best matchups he could hope for in the Pirates. Pittsburgh is near the bottom of the league in everything; I go through it every day, and I'm running out of things to say about how putrid they are (and we're not even halfway through the season!). The only downside is that Misiorowski is facing Paul Skenes, so it might be tough to pick up the win.

Misiorowski is a mid- to high-level streamer. He is full of potential and a must-start fantasy player today, but I'll temper expectations just a hair because he has only made two big-league starts, and things can always unravel for a young player.

Max Scherzer, Toronto Blue Jays @ Cleveland Guardians

Cleveland keeps fighting for playoff position, something most of our target teams can't do, but a big part of that comes from luck and playing in a bad division (other than the Tigers, who keep cruising and look legit). The Guardians rank in the bottom 10 in pretty much every offensive box stat, even losing the average home run prowess they showed earlier in the year.

Scherzer is making his first start back off the IL after missing most of the season to this point. He started one game on March 29 against the Orioles, leaving after three innings and missing about the next three months. We know who Scherzer was in his prime (and even past that point), but we can't expect anything even close to that level now. The name is bigger than the reality in this one; especially back from a big injury, expect a short start and probably some rust.

Scherzer is a low- to mid-level streamer. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt just a little, and the matchup is great, but don't go into this one expecting a big performance from the veteran pitcher (who turns 41 in July).

Wednesday's Streamer Rankings

  1. Jacob Misiorowski, MIL
  2. Edward Cabrera, TOR
  3. Richard Fitts, BOS
  4. Max Scherzer, TOR
