MLB Trade Roundup and Fantasy Baseball Impacts Part 2: Gausman, Peralta and More

Let's continue breaking down some of the notable MLB trades that have been made already.

Cubs Trade for Gausman

The Cubs made a much-needed move for pitching help by landing Kevin Gausman from the Blue Jays. Brett Bateman and Ty Southisene were the players sent out by Chicago in the deal. In a separate deal, Jameson Taillon and cash was sent to the Blue Jays for cash considerations or a player to be named later.

Gausman has struggled to a 4.38 earned run average over 23 starts with Toronto this season. Maybe a change of scenery can help him get back on track, as he owns a career 3.85 ERA.

This season, Gausman is 5-10. He has worked 127 1/3 innings, so he's been eating innings at least. Gausman has 127 punchouts over that span.

Gausman gets a slight fantasy boost from the trade. Despite his struggles, he's still owned in most leagues. He's worth adding or streaming if he's available in your league.

Taillon has a rough 5.92 ERA over 15 starts this season. He was designated for assignment before eventually being traded away. With Gausman out, he could still have a MLB starting rotation spot in Toronto.

We'll see if a change of scenery can get Taillon back on track. I only see him as a deep-league fantasy asset the rest of the season, but if he excels in Toronto, he could work into standard leagues eventually, so don't lose track of Taillon.

Bateman is the No. 20 prospect for the Blue Jays after the deal. The 24-year-old outfielder has a 2027 ETA, but has been playing in Triple-A. If the Blue Jays sell more, he could get a chance at the big leagues later this year, so keep him in mind.

Southisene is Toronto's No. 17 prospect after the trade. The 21-year-old shortstop has a 2028 ETA after being drafted in the fourth round in 2024. He has good numbers this season, and has been playing at High-A, so we'll see if he rises more as a prospect after the change of organizations.

Rays Grab Peralta from Mets

Tampa Bay added Freddy Peralta in a deal with New York. The Mets get Aidan Smith, Gary Gill Hill and Emilien Pitre in return.

Peralta was awful in his time with the Mets, posting a 4.99 ERA over 22 starts. He's only worked 113 2/3 innings, but he has 113 strikeouts at least.

He's had better seasons in the past, and I expect him to pitch a bit better in Tampa Bay. He's been dropped in a good amount of leagues, so be ready to add/stream him while with his new team.

Smith is the Mets' No. 12 prospect after the trade. The 22-year-old outfielder is in High-A and has a 2028 ETA. He's struggled this season, so we'll see if the former fourth-round pick can pick things up with his new organization.

Gill Hill is a 21-year-old pitcher who has been working in Double-A. He has a 2027 ETA after being picked back in 2022. The new No. 17 prospect for New York has struggled a bit this season, but has a 3.99 ERA over his minor league career. We'll see if he can climb the rankings and become a piece for the Mets down the line.

Pitre is the No. 15 prospect for the Mets after the deal. The 23-year-old second baseman has a 2027 ETA and has been playing in Double-A. He's having a great year, and has good numbers across his minor league career, so I really like this get for New York.

Pirates Get Doval From Yankees

Pittsburgh got Camilo Doval from New York. The Yankees got Omar Alfonzo and Luis Cruz in exchange.

Doval struggled to a 4.54 ERA over 44 games with New York this season. He's struggled since leaving the Giants, a team he had some success with in the past. Doval is a middle relief or setup option, at best, with Pittsburgh, so don't expect him to be a very good fantasy option.

Alfonzo is the No. 27 prospect for New York. The 23-year-old catcher and first baseman has a 2028 ETA after being signed back in 2019 by Pittsburgh. I don't like this change of scenery, but we'll see if he can crack the big leagues eventually for New York.

Cruz isn't a top-30 prospect for New York after the trade. He's 18 years old and has only played rookie-level ball in the Dominican Summer League so far. His long-term outlook isn't the best either, so really, the Yankees did this deal to get away from Doval.

Brewers, Guardians Swap Players

Milwaukee landed Bo Naylor and Codi Heuer from Cleveland in exchange for Craig Yoho and Blake Perkins.

Naylor has had some solid big league seasons in the past, but has just 28 games played in 2026. He will be catcher depth for Milwaukee, unless the team moves Gary Sanchez, which doesn't appear likely.

Heuer is a 30-year-old reliever who has also been in Triple-A mostly this year. He has a career 3.76 ERA in the big leagues, but won't be a big fantasy asset with the Brewers.

Yoho is 26 years old and owns a 3.00 ERA over 21 innings pitched this season. He'll fill a middle relief or setup role in Cleveland, so he has a little fantasy relevance, but again, not a ton.

Perkins will be outfield depth for Cleveland. Over 55 games and 101 plate appearances this season, Perkins has just a .157 average and .250 on-base percentage. So again, I don't see him being a fantasy asset in Cleveland.

Kremer, Minter Traded to Twins

Dean Kremer is switching teams, going from the Orioles to the Twins in exchange for Jhomnardo Reyes. Minnesota also got A.J. Minter from the Mets, sending out Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick.

Kremer is 30 years old and has a rough 6.50 ERA this season over seven starts. He should still be a starter in Minnesota, but he's just a deep-league streaming asset for now. If he takes off, he could work into more leagues, so at least keep tabs on him.

Minter is a 32-year-old reliever who gives the Twins' bullpen a setup man, or simply a good reliever to turn to. Over 25 games so far, he has a 2.22 ERA. He's 1-1 and has a hold, and has already pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the Twins. Minter has a little fantasy value, but is just a deep-league asset unless he's earning saves.

Reyes is the new No. 20 prospect for Baltimore. The 18-year-old outfielder has a 2030 ETA after being signed earlier this year.  He's hitting pretty well so far and is in Single-A, so we'll see if Reyes can keep trending up and eventually make the big leagues.

Agbayani is the No. 25 prospect for New York after the deal. The 19-year-old middle infielder has a 2029 ETA after being a sixth-round pick in 2025. He's hit pretty well across his first 15 games, but is only in Single-A so far, so he is a ways off from a possible MLB debut.

Amick is 23 years old and has been playing in Double-A. He isn't a top-30 prospect for New York. He can play third base, but has struggled this year. We'll see if he can get rolling with his new organization.
