Fantasy Baseball SP Waiver Wire: Thursday Streamer Rankings & Pitcher Matchups
Four starting pitchers with good matchups on Thursday who are widely available in fantasy leagues.
I somehow forgot to mention my favorite baseball holiday yesterday: Bobby Bonilla Day! Every year on July 1, the New York Mets pay Bonilla $1.19 million, deferred money from when he played with the franchise in the 1990s.
Deferred money has become a staple in major contracts these days, with the Dodgers infamously having deferred over $1 billion recently, but Bonilla was one of the earliest and most famous examples of a player continuing to cash in each year with money he earned decades ago. Bonilla will be paid through 2035, so we have more Bobby Bonilla Days to celebrate over the next decade!
Moving to fantasy baseball, let's look at four starting pitchers in action on Thursday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.
Use FantasySP's waiver wire tool to find the players who are being added to fantasy teams most often!
Jared Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates @ Philadelphia Phillies
Jones was listed here before his previous start against Cincinnati, and things didn't go great: 4 2/3 innings, four hits, four runs, and one homer, though he did have four strikeouts to go with one walk. He missed the entire 2025 season after undergoing elbow surgery, but Jones had a strong debut season in 2024 and looked ready to break out. He is struggling in his return, but I still hold out hope that Jones will right the ship eventually, especially giving his plus strikeout work.
Philadelphia has played better over the past month. They still rank in the bottom 10 in many offensive box stats, but in the last 30 days, the Phillies have been a top-10 offense. If they continue like this much longer, they will play themselves completely off our target list; I'm already skeptical of going after them. This is a questionable matchup, but we are short on the schedule today, so we will mention them here.
Jones is a low-level streamer. His Ks give him upside, but his struggles are enough to pause on adding him, and the matchup maybe not being very good right now pushes him down another level.
Dustin May, St. Louis Cardinals @ Atlanta Braves
Over the full season, the Braves rate as a slightly above-average offense. They were much better than that for most of the first few months, but Atlanta has fallen off HARD over the past month, looking like one of the worst offensive teams in baseball during June. Opposite of the Phillies, the Braves might soon play their way into a regular appearance on our streaming list, though I'm not quite all the way there yet. The short schedule today pushes their inclusion.
May's last start was skipped by St. Louis because he was experiencing tightness in his back, but he looks ready to go for this one, just with a little risk. He has very average numbers this season in most areas, including just a little better than that level with both walks and strikeouts. There have been a few very rough starts, including his last time out, when he allowed six hits and six runs in just two innings against the Royals, but May has also shown plenty of success in 2026.
May is a low-to-mid-level streamer. There's a little added risk given his mild injury status, but May has also proven to be an effective pitcher this season, and Atlanta's recent struggles give him a decent outlook in this one.
Roki Sasaki, Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres
Sasaki's overall numbers aren't too far from average, but he is a little on the wrong side with walks and runs allowed while giving up too many home runs. He does good strikeout work, but Sasaki has too often been knocked around, having rough outings as often as he finds success. He's still a young player and only 108 1/3 innings into his career, so things will get better, but it's fair to temper expectations right now.
The Padres remain maybe our favorite team to go after with opposing pitchers, only leaving a want for more strikeouts to be the perfect target. Unlike Philadelphia and Atlanta, San Diego has been a bottom offensive team both over the full season and in the past month, leaving them ripe for the picking for middling pitchers every time they take the field.
Sasaki is a mid-level streamer. Though there is risk, the matchup couldn't be much better, and Sasaki does good strikeout work, so he has a decent floor and ceiling in this one (though he did struggle a bit against the Padres last time out).
Walbert Urena, Los Angeles Angels @ Seattle Mariners
Seattle is another team like San Diego in that they have lowly stats both over the full season and in the past 30 days. They have had stretches where they performed better (which the Padres don't really have), but the numbers point toward a weak offensive team. The Mariners also play at one of the best pitcher's parks in baseball, and this game takes place at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, giving the pitchers an extra fantasy boost.
In his debut season, Urena has done well in most areas, only really faltering with control (an 11.8% walk rate versus league average around 8-9%). He has done average strikeout work while doing well limiting hits, runs, and home runs, though seven unearned runs might make his 3.14 ERA a little deceiving. He is coming off his worst start of the season (six hits and seven runs allowed in 4 1/3 innings against the A's), but Urena is worth considering in the right matchups.
Urena is a mid-level streamer. His strikeout work gives him a decent ceiling, but his proclivity for giving up walks brings a little risk. Just 22 years old, Urena is likely to show more inconsistency, but the matchup and location of this game are in his favor.
