Wednesday Waiver Wire Targets: Hot Bats to Add Right Now
Recent production and rising ownership make these four bats intriguing fantasy additions.
Let's turn our attention to some fantasy baseball waiver wire hitting options!
We just went over waiver wire/streaming pitchers for Wednesday. Also be sure to check out waiver wire hitter stories from Monday and Tuesday.
Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Dansby Swanson - Chicago Cubs
Swanson has been added in 3.24% of fantasy baseball leagues so far today, and that brings his overall mark to 47.48%.
He's a bigger name, but has struggled most of the season. Over 74 games and 286 plate appearances, Swanson has a .189 average and .295 on-base percentage. He has nine doubles and homers, plus a triple, among his 46 total knocks, plus has 35 RBIs, 44 runs scored, nine stolen bases, 37 walks and 66 strikeouts.
Swanson has a four-game hitting streak going, and has two hits in back-to-back games. He has homered twice, and also doubled twice, in that short span. Swanson has seven RBIs, five runs scored, three walks and stolen bases and no strikeouts in that stretch.
The shortstop is starting to show signs of life at the plate, so it's no surprise he's on the rise as a fantasy asset. I see Swanson as a deep-league asset most of the time, but he could be streamed in standard leagues for as long as his bat stays hot. It could also be a time to sell high on Swanson, but that's just for deeper leagues at this point.
Bryson Stott - Philadelphia Phillies
Stott is trending up right now and sits at 54% owned overall. He was at 45% back on June 15.
He posted three hits on Tuesday, including a home run. He scored four runs, stole a base and drove in three runs in that contest.
Stott has a .241 average and .298 OBP over 73 contests and 277 plate appearances this season. He has 61 total hits, including 14 doubles, seven home runs and three triples. Stott has 39 RBIs, 29 runs scored, 15 stolen bases, 19 walks and 46 strikeouts.
The second baseman has produced more at the plate of late, so he's seen his own percentage go up over the course of the past month. He's another guy who is a better deep-league fantasy asset, but while his bat is hot, he could be a standard league streaming option.
Daulton Varsho - Toronto Blue Jays
Varsho has been added in 3.15% of leagues so far today. He is now owned in 28.42% of leagues overall.
He recently got off the injured list, and has at least one hit in all three of his appearances since. He had a three-hit game on Tuesday - he doubled twice and homered once, while also tallying two RBIs and runs scored.
Varsho has played in 67 games this season, getting 251 plate appearances. He has a .262 average, which is well above his .230 career mark. Varsho has a .335 OBP, which is again way higher than his .299 career mark.
The outfielder has 59 total hits this season, including 15 doubles, seven home runs and two triples. Varsho has 22 RBIs, 31 runs scored, six stolen bases, 23 walks and 49 strikeouts.
The outfielder is part of a stacked fantasy position, but when healthy this season, he's delivered, so he's a decent asset. While he's active and producing, Varsho is worth adding and utilizing in deeper leagues, at least. If he stays hot at the plate, he could eventually work into standard leagues.
Carson Benge - New York Mets
Benge is rostered in roughly 67% of fantasy leagues at the moment. That's up from 60% on June 21.
The rookie has done some nice things across his first 75 games and 301 plate appearances. Benge has a .257 average and .319 OBP. He has nine doubles and homers, plus two triples, among his 71 total knocks. Benge also has 30 RBIs, 43 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, 21 walks and 66 strikeouts to his name.
Benge is riding a five-game hitting streak right now. He has seven hits over that span, including two homers and a triple. Benge also has four RBIs, six runs scored, a stolen base, two walks and five strikeouts.
The outfielder has been a pretty steady fantasy asset since joining the big league team early in the season. There's still things he could improve in, but that doesn't mean he isn't a valuable fantasy asset already.
Him being part of a loaded fantasy outfield spot holds him back some, but compare his numbers and production to your current outfielders. You might find out that Benge is a better option, so at least look into it.
