Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups Based on Weekly Projections

We have looked at fantasy baseball waiver wire/streaming options (pitchers and hitters) so far, and are now going to identify some more options.

We'll use weekly projections to identify more pitchers and hitters. Let's dive right in!

Hitters

A.J. Ewing - New York Mets

Ewing has seven games scheduled for the coming week. He's rostered in 55% of fantasy baseball leagues at the moment.

Ewing made his MLB debut this past week, and he had a strong week at the plate. In six games and across 25 plate appearances, Ewing had five hits, including a triple and home run.

The rookie also had three RBIs, five runs scored, seven walks and five strikeouts. Ewing also stole two bases. Those are pretty well-rounded numbers.

We'll see how he progresses from here, but Ewing looks the part early on. He's worth adding in all deeper leagues, and he's already creeping into standard leagues. Don't wait too long if you are interested in adding him.

JJ Bleday - Cincinnati Reds

Bleday is owned in 71% of leagues. He has six games lined up for this week.

He's gone hitless over his past two games, but has been pretty good otherwise this season. Bleday has a .303 average and .418 OBP over 19 games and 79 plate appearances overall.

He has 20 hits so far, including six home runs, five doubles and a triple. Bleday also has 19 RBIs, 12 runs scored, a stolen base, 13 walks and 12 strikeouts.

Bleday is playing really well right now, and while he will regress in time, now is still a time to utilize him in fantasy leagues. Do it in all deeper leagues, and treat him as a short-term option in standard leagues.

Keibert Ruiz - Washington Nationals

Ruiz could play up to seven games this week. He is only rostered in 6% of leagues.

He has a hit in four straight games, and seven knocks total over that span. Ruiz has a .236 average and .255 OBP after his recent heat up.

He has 21 hits on the season, with 10 being doubles and four being home runs. Ruiz has 21 RBIs, 11 runs scored, two walks, a stolen base and 15 strikeouts.

The catcher is trending up right now, and I'm surprised he isn't owned in more leagues already. He's worth adding in more deeper leagues, and utilizing until his bat cools off a bit.

Travis Bazzana - Cleveland Guardians

Bazzana sits at 64% rostered and has seven games he could play in this coming week.

The rookie has eight hits over his past four games played. That's bumped his average to .271 and OBP to .411 on the season.

Bazzana has 16 hits so far, including a home run and double. He has seven RBIs and stolen bases, eight runs scored and 12 walks and strikeouts. Bazzana has played in 17 games, getting 73 plate appearances.

He is trending up as he starts to deliver more at the plate. Bazzana is a highly-regarded prospect, and could turn into a big-time fantasy asset in time. I'd be happy to add and utilize him in all deeper leagues, and a good amount of standard leagues too.

Pitchers

Foster Griffin - Washington Nationals

Griffin is rostered in 68% of fantasy leagues right now. He's got starts lined up against the Mets and Braves this week.

The Mets are a pretty solid matchup for a starting pitcher, while the Braves are a team to avoid if possible. Griffin has pitched well this season though, so he's one to still consider in tougher tests.

He has a 3.53 earned run average over his nine starts and 51 innings pitched so far. Griffin has allowed 24 runs (20 earned) on 40 hits and 18 walks, while striking out 49 batters along the way.

He'd been pitching superbly, but he was tagged for nine runs over 4 1/3 innings in his last outing. Griffin should bounce back against the Mets, but I don't like trying him against the Braves in all leagues. Consider Griffin in all leagues against the Mets, but just start him in deeper leagues against Atlanta.

Max Meyer - Miami Marlins

Meyer has starts scheduled against the Braves and Mets as well. He is rostered in 73% of fantasy leagues.

We discussed the matchups already, so let's dive more into Meyer's numbers. In nine starts, he's 3-0 with a 3.21 ERA over 47 2/3 innings. Meyer has allowed 18 runs (17 earned) on 38 knocks and 17 walks. He's struck out 54 batters.

I again only really trust Meyer in deeper leagues for that test against the Braves. He's an option in all leagues for the clash against the Mets though.

Mitch Keller - Pittsburgh Pirates

Keller has starts set against the Cardinals and Blue Jays this coming week. He's owned in 70% of leagues at the moment.

Both of those matchups are pretty solid, and the veteran Keller is trustable in tougher starts anyway. He is coming off a six-run appearance though, so that's something to keep in mind.

He is 4-2 with a 3.59 ERA over nine starts and 52 2/3 innings so far. Keller has allowed 21 runs on 42 hits and 15 walks, while striking out 38 batters.

Keller is a solid fantasy option in deeper leagues, and I'd be comfortable starting him in those leagues for both of his starts this week. He's a streaming option in standard leagues, but one to be cautious of after a bad outing, and with lackluster strikeout numbers so far.

Ryne Nelson - Arizona Diamondbacks 

Nelson has starts against the Giants and Rockies this week. He's owned in about 44% of fantasy leagues right now.

I really like Nelson's matchups this week. The D-Back hurler is trending up, so he's my favorite pitcher we've discussed in this article.

Nelson is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA over nine starts so far, but he's allowed just five runs over 19 1/3 innings in his past three starts. On the season, Nelson has allowed 33 runs (27 earned) on 38 hits and 14 walks, while striking out 43 batters.

Nelson is one to start in all deeper leagues for his two starts this week. I also like him in some standard leagues. Give him some serious consideration this week.
