4 Fantasy Baseball Hitters to Target Monday on the Waiver Wire

Colt Emerson - Seattle Mariners

Emerson has been added in 11.95% of fantasy baseball leagues already today. That brings his overall mark to 29.72%.

Emerson got called up to make his MLB debut on Sunday. He was signed to an eight-year deal worth $95 million earlier this year, and now he's being given a chance to play at the big league level.

Emerson is the No. 6 prospect in baseball, so there's some high hopes around him. The 20-year-old was a first-round pick back in 2023, going 22nd overall. Emerson is 6-feet tall and weighs 195 pounds.

The primary shortstop is expected to play third base for the time being, as Brendan Donovan hit the injured list with left groin muscle inflammation. If Emerson shines at the plate, the team will find a way to keep him in the big leagues for the long haul.

As a prospect, he has a 60-grade overall. His best tool is his hitting, which is graded at a 65. He has a 60 in fielding, a 55 for his arm and 50s for his power and running.

In parts of four minor league seasons, Emerson had a .282 average and .391 on-base percentage over 262 games. He had 287 hits before being called up, including 63 doubles, 29 homers and eight triples.

Emerson also had 154 RBIs and 191 runs scored during his time in the minor leagues. He posted 155 walks, 47 stolen bases and 229 strikeouts. In 38 Triple-A games this season, Emerson had 37 hits (eight doubles, seven homers, one triple), 26 RBIs and runs scored, 17 walks, 10 stolen bases and 46 strikeouts, while having a .255 average and .347 OBP.

The Mariners decided he'd shown enough in the minor leagues and are now given the highly-touted prospect a chance to deliver in the big leagues. He started at third base and hit ninth in the team's game on Sunday. Emerson had a walk over three plate appearances, and he also scored once.

In time, Emerson could become a really good fantasy asset, especially if he's playing daily for the Mariners, who need an offensive spark. I like the idea of adding Emerson in most deeper leagues today. He's one to track, as he could become a good standard league option in short order too.

Gavin Sheets - San Diego Padres

Sheets has risen 5.23%, which brings his overall mark to 18.12%.

Sheets has been on a tear of late, collecting 10 hits over a six-game hitting streak. He has three homers over his past two games, and four homers total in that span.

Over 42 games and 141 plate appearances on the season, Sheets has a .262 average and .340 OBP. He has 33 total hits, including 10 doubles and nine home runs. Sheets has 21 RBIs, 19 runs scored, three stolen bases, 14 walks and 28 strikeouts.

He should be eligible at first base and at least left field too. Those are loaded fantasy spots, but Sheets is delivering enough right now to add and utilize in more fantasy leagues. I like picking him up and trying him in deeper leagues until his bat cools off. He could even be a short-term streaming option in standard leagues, although I see him as a much better deep-league asset.

Angel Martinez and Brayan Rocchio - Cleveland Guardians

Martinez is up 3.84% and sits at 54.01% overall now. Rocchio has been added in 4.88% of leagues, which brings his overall mark to 45.99%.

Martinez is on a five-game hitting streak, with seven knocks over that span. He's homered back-to-back days, and has four homers over that stretch.

Martinez is up to nine homers on the season. He also has eight doubles among his 38 total hits, plus 24 RBIs, 22 runs scored, eight stolen bases, six walks and 33 strikeouts. He's played in 44 games, getting 157 plate appearances so far.

Martinez is playing the outfield this season, but could have second base eligibility from past seasons. He's a better fantasy asset if he can fill in at second base too. I like him in deeper leagues, and think he's a short-term standard league option when he's hot at the plate, like he is now.

Rocchio has four hits over his past two games, including a homer in his last appearance. He bumped his average to .285 and OBP to .366 for the season.

In 46 games and 174 plate appearances, Rocchio has 43 total hits, including five doubles and four home runs. He has 26 RBIs, 19 runs scored, eight stolen bases, 16 walks and 17 strikeouts.

The primary shortstop should also be eligible at second base, so dual position eligibility is a fantasy bonus for him. He's hitting enough to warrant deep-league fantasy usage, and he's getting close to being standard league worthy too. Be ready to add Rocchio if his bat stays hot.
