Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers for Thursday: Streamers & Stashes
A look at the best waiver wire arms for Thursday, including streamers and stash options.
Thursday is here, so it's time for our fourth round of fantasy baseball waiver wire stories of the work week.
Here, let's go over waiver wire pitchers. Check back in a bit for a story on hitters.
Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Peter Lambert - Houston Astros
Lambert has been added in 9.88% of fantasy leagues, bringing his overall mark up to 28.26%.
Lambert will start game one of a doubleheader against the Orioles on Thursday. He was supposed to start on Wednesday against Baltimore, but the game got postponed.
Lambert has made two starts this season, and he sits with a 1-1 record. He pitched five innings in the first start, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk, while striking out eight. Lambert tossed six scoreless innings in his last outing, giving up three hits and three walks, while striking out eight.
Lambert is a solid streaming option for the day, but I only like him in deeper leagues. The matchup is just so-so, so I'd stop short of trying Lambert in standard leagues.
Jared Jones - Pittsburgh Pirates
Jones is up 2.48% and sits at 24.22% overall now.
He is making rehab starts now, but is still on the 60-day injured list, so he's still out until late May, at least. Pittsburgh isn't going to rush him back, but he still should be back with plenty of season left.
Jones hasn't started in the big leagues since 2024. He made 22 starts that year, going 6-8 with a 4.14 earned run average over 121 2/3 innings.
He's a highly-touted pitcher and hopefully can return and ascend to the level many expect him to get to eventually. Jones is worth adding in some deeper leagues, especially if you can stash him on your bench or an IR spot. Be ready to add him in more leagues as he nears a return.
Brandon Young - Baltimore Orioles
Young is rostered in 9.94% of leagues, which is up 2.8% today.
Young will be making a start for Baltimore against Houston as part of today's doubleheader. The Astros aren't a great matchup, but Young has also pitched well enough this season to try in some tougher matchups.
Young has pitched two times this season. In start one, he earned a win after tossing five scoreless innings - he allowed two hits and two walks, while striking out two. Young earned a win his last time out as well, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk, while striking out five over 5 2/3 innings.
While Young has pitched well, this matchup just isn't good enough to try in all fantasy leagues. He's OK to try in deeper leagues, but look elsewhere in standard leagues.
Jeffrey Springs - Athletics
Springs has been added in 2.28% of fantasy leagues, which brings his overall mark to 66.77%.
Springs will be making a start against the Royals, who are a pretty good matchup on paper. That's an early game on Thursday, so don't wait too long to add him if you are interested in him.
In six starts, Springs is 3-2 and has a 3.79 ERA over 35 2/3 innings. He's allowed 15 runs on 25 hits and 11 walks, while striking out 31 batters.
Springs pitched well in his first four starts, but struggled his past two times out. He's still worth trying today because of the matchup he has. He needs to start in deeper leagues, and he's a standard league option as well.
Bailey Ober - Minnesota Twins
Ober is up 4.23% today - he's owned in 42.86% overall.
Ober is starting today against the Blue Jays. It's not the best matchup out there, but he's facing off against Kevin Gausman, so his outlook is even lower today.
He has started six games so far this season, and he sits with a 2-1 record. Ober has allowed 15 runs (14 earned) on 26 hits and 11 walks, while striking out 27 batters.
Ober has pitched well over his past two starts, and he's startable today in deeper leagues. I'd avoid him in standard leagues because of the matchup and his opposition.
Andrew Abbott - Cincinnati Reds
Abbott is rostered in 47% of leagues today as he gets ready to make a start.
He will make a start on Thursday against the Rockies. The game isn't in Colorado, so the matchup is even better.
Abbott is 0-2 over his first six starts of the season. He's struggled outside his first start, and has now allowed 22 runs (21 earned) over 28 2/3 innings. Abbott has given up 38 hits and 13 walks, while striking out 19 batters.
Abbott hasn't started the season well, but the matchup is so good today that he should be considered in all leagues. I like him in deeper leagues, but would be cautious of him in standard leagues. Proceed with caution with Abbott today.
