Wednesday Fantasy Baseball Streamers: One Pitcher Stands Out Above the Rest

In the age of strikeouts, one hitter stands out early in 2026: Matt Wallner of the Minnesota Twins. Wallner has 31 strikeouts and just five walks in 65 at-bats, striking out nearly half the time he comes to the plate.

This is a career-long issue, as Wallner has struck out in close to 39% of his career at-bats. He hits for a little power, and a hitter can sustain a high number of Ks if he also regularly mashes, but Wallner hasn't been THAT good when making contact, so he needs to figure out how to hit the ball more often to stick in a good lineup.

Switching to fantasy baseball, let's look at four starting pitchers in action on Wednesday who have good matchups and are widely available in fantasy leagues. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable pitchers. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Tyler Mahle, San Francisco Giants @ Cincinnati Reds

Rhett Lowder, Cincinnati Reds vs. San Francisco Giants

We'll start today with a game in which we can target both teams, a pair of franchises that entered the season with high hopes but have struggled offensively early. San Francisco has been getting doubles and triples, but they have hit the fewest home runs of any team and drawn the fewest walks, helping lead to bottom-level scoring. Cincinnati has been a bottom-five offensive team in many areas while striking out at a top-10 rate, playing like a top target through the first few weeks.

Mahle has been average with walks and above average with strikeouts in his career while doing well limiting hits and home runs. That has led to an ERA just over 4.00, and Mahle has been close to his career numbers in 14 2/3 innings this season. There's intrigue here when the matchup is right.

Lowder has thrown 47 big-league innings (between 2024 and 2026 while missing all of '25), and though his walks and strikeouts have been on the wrong side of things, Lowder has allowed just 39 hits, 11 runs (10 earned), and one home run. Lowder was the seventh overall pick in 2023 and has nice pedigree, but he was only OK with strikeouts in the minors, so that might continue to be an issue.

Mahle is a mid-level streamer and Lowder and low-to-mid-level streamer. The former has the strikeout work to earn the extra projection, and though I have high hopes for Lowder eventually, his K and BB work leave him a step lower even though he has been very good limiting hitters.

Dustin May, St. Louis Cardinals vs. Cleveland Guardians

May has been a very average pitcher in his career, falling near that mark with walks, strikeouts, hits allowed, home runs allowed, and ERA. Injuries have been an issue, holding him to low innings totals; last year's 132 1/3 was the first time he ever topped 56, and he missed all of 2024. While he could get back to a better level, 2025 was rough, and he has started this season struggling hard, allowing 21 hits and 15 runs in 13 1/3 innings.

Cleveland's team numbers have been a little below average, though they have hit for decent power. They were a bottom-10 offensive team last season, putting them on our radar early, and with only a small sample so far, we will keep going after the Guardians until they prove they can sustain better play.

May is a low-level streamer. He hasn't been very good the past few years, and his numbers this season are untenable for a fantasy player. It's best to skip May until we see him put together even an average performance.

Jesse Scholtens, Tampa Bay Rays @ Chicago White Sox

Scholtens was recalled from Triple-A for this start after Joe Boyle was placed on IL (Boyle had been a frequent friend here early in the season). Scholtens has thrown just 98 career innings with 85 of them coming in 2023, and he has been good with walks and mostly below average with strikeouts in that time. He did subpar K work in the minors as well, so there's not a lot of upside, and Scholtens has been hit around a little too.

The White Sox are a prime target, holding several straight seasons of low-level offensive numbers and following the same path early in 2026. We will keep going after Chicago every day that they are available, even with pitchers who don't quite match up to fantasy expectations.

Scholtens is a low-level streamer. Though the matchup is right, it's too tough to expect much right now. Early in the season, you can find a better way to use your fantasy innings.
