Top 5 Sunday Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitcher Streamers and Matchup Analysis
Five starting pitchers with good matchups on Sunday who are widely available in fantasy leagues.
You will hear about small sample sizes a lot early in the MLB season; a general rule is that you can't trust anything until we hit Memorial Day. Even after early May, there will still be an ever-changing landscape, an inevitability in a 162-game season. This early into 2026, it's important to take everything with a pound of salt unless a player/team is continuing a season-long trend.
Moving to fantasy baseball, let's look at five starting pitchers with good matchups on Sunday who are widely available in fantasy leagues. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters.

Emerson Hancock, Seattle Mariners vs. Cleveland Guardians
Cleveland was close to an average offensive team in 2024 before falling off last year to a clear bottom-10 level. So far this season, they have scored six, one, and six runs in their three games. Last night, they only scored three in the first nine innings then got three more in extra innings, but the Guardians are scoring some runs, something to watch.
Hancock has 162 2/3 innings to his name, all accumulated over the past three seasons, and it hasn't been great. He has given up more than a hit per inning all three years and has a well-below-average strikeout rate, leading to an ERA of 4.50 or higher in all three seasons (and 4.81 overall).
Hancock is a low-level streamer. His performance hasn't been good enough to count on him often, and we're not sure yet how good this matchup actually is.
Steven Matz, Tampa Bay Rays @ St. Louis Cardinals
Matz made 51 of his 53 appearances last season out of the bullpen, but he is back in the rotation for now, as Tampa is dealing with a few injuries. He might not make long outings, though he did work as a starter previously. Matz has had a below-average strikeout rate the past two seasons while also doing well limiting walks.
The Cardinals weren't quite as potent yesterday as they were on Thursday, scoring six runs instead of nine (and scoring two of those runs in the 10th), but they are 2-0 and looking good offensively. There is still value in targeting St. Louis early in the season, but they are more of a secondary target than a team we really want to attack every day.
Matz is a low-level streamer. I believe in him as a starter, at least in that he can go five innings, but I don't expect great numbers, and the matchup might be more good than great.
Max Meyer, Miami Marlins vs. Colorado Rockies
We're always looking to go after the Rockies when they are away from home (and even once in a while when they play at Coors Field). Last season, Colorado scored the second-fewest runs, drew the fewest walks, and struck out the second most. The Rockies scored one run on Friday and three yesterday, combining to strike out 19 times in the two games.
Meyer is another guy with less than a season's worth of work spread over three years. He has been average with strikeouts and a hair better than average with walks, but Meyer has also been knocked around a bit, giving up 142 hits in 127 2/3 innings with a 5.29 ERA and a home run allowed every 4.6 innings.
Meyer is a low-level streamer. He hasn't been good enough to trust very often, but the matchup won't get better than this, so it's worth taking a look if you're desperate for pitching.
Bailey Ober, Minnesota Twins @ Baltimore Orioles
Ober's strikeout rate was above average in the first four years of his career, but he fell to 19.2% last season against the league average around 21-22%. He doesn't walk many hitters, helping to mitigate that drop in Ks. Ober was also hit harder last season (159 hits in 146 1/3 innings, 5.10 ERA); maybe it was a fluke, but he was noticeably worse in 2025.
The Orioles are a team I'm watching to improve on last year's bottom-10 offensive performance, but they haven't been very good in their first two games, combining for just three runs (though they did win 2-1 on Thursday). Keep targeting Baltimore until they show that they can hit.
Ober is a low-to-mid-level streamer. I still believe in the matchup, even as I expect Baltimore to improve eventually, and Ober has past work that shows he can be a better pitcher, but it's worth tempering expectations a little.
Brandon Sproat, Milwaukee Brewers vs. Chicago White Sox
Sproat made a brief debut last season, throwing just 20 2/3 innings in four starts. His numbers were fine, though he gave up a few too many runs. He was good but not great in the minor leagues, striking out just over a batter per inning, but there's some upside to the former second-round pick.
After getting beaten 14-2 in the opener on Thursday, the White Sox did a little better on Saturday…only losing 6-1. Their offense has predictably struggled, though they have to be happy with offseason signing Munetaka Murakami, who has hit a solo home run in each game (major trade watch starting already). After striking out 20 times in the opener (!!!), Chicago struck out 11 times on Saturday, solidifying their spot as a high-level target.
Sproat is a low-to-mid-level streamer with upside. I want to push him up one more level, but again, tempering expectations is best this early in the season. I won't be surprised if we come back tomorrow talking about a sparkling outing for the rookie.
