Brandon Sproat transforms into a strikeout force for the first-place Brewers
Sproat has been electric lately, posting a 1.79 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP with 21 strikeouts over his last 15.1 innings of work. The first-place Brewers (55-33) have leaned on the young righty as he slots in as the number four starter in the rotation. Despite a minor hamstring scare earlier in June, he is fully healthy and pitching the best baseball of his career, highlighted by a recent career-high 10-strikeout performance.
While his overall season ERA of 5.36 still reflects early-season struggles, his recent metrics show a pitcher finally aligning with our 4.27 ERA season projection. His 11.11 K/9 over the last 30 days is elite, and a consistent 0.99 WHIP during that span suggests his previous control issues are dissipating. With Brandon Woodruff currently on the injured list, Sproat has capitalized on the opportunity to prove his high-velocity arsenal is a sustainable asset.
Sproat is scheduled for one start this week on July 10 at Pittsburgh. He will match up against Braxton Ashcraft, who carries a solid 3.31 ERA, but the Pirates’ lineup remains a favorable target for a pitcher with Sproat's swing-and-miss stuff.
