Diamondbacks' Prospects Check-In: Jordan Lawlar, Ryan Waldschmidt and More

Taking a look at some Diamondbacks' prospects as July winds down.

Let's continue our series looking at MLB organization's prospects by looking over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

We have already looked at prospects for the Tigers, Dodgers, Astros, Cubs, Phillies, Blue Jays, Mets, Brewers, Yankees, Padres, Red Sox, Giants, Mariners, Cardinals, Reds, Rays, Rangers and Guardians. We'll focus on players age 25 or below.

Top Performing Hitters

Jorge Barrosa has the most hits, with 106 on the year so far. He's the team's No. 20 prospect and plays in Triple-A. Barrosa has been in the big leagues for stints in 2024 and 2025 already.

Barrosa has a .300 average and .384 on-base percentage across 83 Triple-A games this season. He has a .188 average and .182 OBP over 13 MLB games. If the team sells at the deadline, expect Barroso to get more playing time down the stretch.

Tommy Troy and Gino Groover each had 92 hits this year. Troy is the team's No. 5 prospect, while Groover is No. 6.

Troy is a 23-year-old middle infielder currently playing in Double-A - he has a 2026 ETA. Along with a .281 average and .379 OBP this year, Troy has 45 RBIs, 52 runs scored, 47 walks, 17 stolen bases and 67 strikeouts. Among his hits, he has 20 doubles, 11 homers and two triples. 

Groover is a 23-year-old infielder playing in Double-A - he has a 2026 ETA. He's hitting .298 and getting on base at a .375 clip so far, while having 16 doubles and 10 homers among his knocks. Groover has 42 runs scored, 39 RBIs, 33 walks, 65 strikeouts and no stolen bases.

Cristofer Torin has 86 knocks on the year. He's the organization's No. 14 prospect.

Torin is a 20-year-old playing in High-A and he has a 2027 ETA. He has a .264 average and .380 OBP this season, along with 51 runs scored, 35 RBIs, 56 walks, 57 strikeouts and 12 stolen bases. Torin has 15 doubles, one triple and a homer among his knocks.

JD Dix has a .324 average over 257 plate appearances. Dix ranks seventh in the organization.

He's 19 years old, plays in Single-A and has a 2028 ETA. Dix has a .324 average and .405 OBP in his first minor league season. He has 16 doubles, four triples and two homers among his hits, along with 43 runs scored, 28 RBIs and walks, 52 strikeouts and 12 stolen bases.

Top Performing Pitchers

Nate Savino has a 2.12 earned run average over 51 innings this year. Savino is not a top-30 prospect of the team.

He's 4-0 across 26 relief appearances. Savino is 23 years old and has 52 strikeouts and 27 walks while pitching at Single-A, High-A and Double-A.

Junior Sanchez has a 2.52 ERA over 78 2/3 innings. He also isn't ranked in the top 30.

Sanchez is a 22-year-old who has pitched at Single-A and High-A so far. He has a 4-2 record over 14 starts and 16 appearances. Sanchez has 67 strikeouts and 26 walks as well.

Daniel Eagen has racked up 99 strikeouts over 73 2/3 innings. He's the team's No. 10 prospect.

The 22-year-old is pitching in High-A, and has a 2027 ETA. He's 4-5 with a 2.81 ERA over 15 starts in his first taste of the minor leagues. Eagen has 35 walks and a .198 average against him.

Roman Angelo has 88 punchouts over 90 1/3 innings, while Dylan Ray has 86 strikeouts over 92 1/3 innings. Angelo is ranked 25th in the organization, while Ray is No. 19.

Angelo is at Double-A as a 25-year-old and has a 2026 ETA. He's 2-8 with a 5.88 ERA over 18 starts so far. Angelo has walked 44 batters and has a .245 average against him.

Ray is working in Triple-A as a 24-year-old and is expected to debut later this season. Across two minor league levels, Ray has a 9-5 record in 18 total starts. He's walked 37 batters and has a .241 average against him.

Top-Ranked Prospects

Jordan Lawlar is the team's No. 1 prospect - he's No. 12 overall in baseball.

The 23-year-old is in Triple-A and has played in the big leagues for 22 total games between 2023 and 2025. He has a .319 average and .410 OBP over 53 AAA games this year. Lawlar has proved all he needs to in the minors, he just needs to show he belongs in the big leagues, where he has a .080 average and .179 OBP.

Slade Caldwell is ranked 76th overall, while Ryan Waldschmidt is No. 77. They are the second- and third-ranked prospects for Arizona.

Caldwell is 19 years old, plays in High-A and has a 2028 ETA. Across two minor league levels in his first pro season, he has a .255 average and .418 OBP. Caldwell has 18 doubles, three triples and three homers among his 69 total hits, along with 57 runs scored, 27 RBIs, 66 walks, 96 strikeouts and 22 stolen bases.

Waldschmidt has a 2027 ETA and currently plays in AA as a 22-year-old. Across two levels, he has a .257 average and .397 OBP so far. He's got 18 doubles, three triples and 10 homers among his 82 total hits, while also having posted 51 RBIs, 73 runs scored, 66 walks, 75 strikeouts and 14 stolen bases.

Demetrio Crisantes is the fourth-ranked prospect. He's 20 years old, plays in High-A and has a 2027 ETA. 

Crisantes has a .252 average and .358 OBP over 34 games this year. He has eight doubles and four homers among his 31 total hits, along with 29 RBIs, 18 runs scored, 21 walks, 19 strikeouts and six stolen bases.
