Tigers Prospect Check-In: Max Clark, Kevin McGonigle and More

Taking a look at some Tigers' prospects near the middle of the MLB regular season.

Near the middle of the MLB regular season, it's a good time to check in on a team's top-performing prospects.

In this team-by-team series, we'll begin with the top team in the league, the Detroit Tigers.

We'll focus on players age 25 or below.

Top Performing Hitters

At the time of publication, Max Anderson owns the most hits in the team's minor league system with 77. He's playing at Double-A and is the team's No. 21 prospect

He has a 2026 ETA after being drafted in 2023. Anderson plays second base and has a .341 average and .383 on-base percentage across 55 games. He also has 43 RBIs, 37 runs scored, 14 walks, a stolen base and 37 strikeouts. Anderson has 19 doubles, a triple and 11 homers among his hits.

Seth Stephenson and John Peck have 62 hits each.

Stephenson is not ranked among the team's top-30 prospects. He has 41 runs scored, 33 RBIs, 18 walks, 17 stolen bases and 40 strikeouts at High-A. Stephenson has 11 doubles, two triples and six homers among his hits.

Peck is also not ranked at the moment. He's also at High-A and has totaled 36 RBIs, 38 runs scored, 20 walks, 10 stolen bases and 71 strikeouts. Among his hits, Peck has 10 doubles and five home runs.

Hao-Yu Lee has racked up 57 hits so far, including nine doubles and five triples and home runs. He also has 29 runs scored, 25 RBIs, 30 walks, 10 stolen bases and 47 strikeouts. Lee is the team's No. 6 prospect, is just 22 years old and is already in Triple-A, and he's expected to be promoted to the big leagues at some point this season.

Top Performing Pitchers

Joe Miller has a 2.72 earned run average over 56 1/3 innings at High-A. The 25-year-old has 47 strikeouts on the season. He's not ranked either.

Garrett Burhenn has a 3.44 ERA over 55 innings pitched at Double-A. He's struck out 56 batters along the way. Burhenn is not ranked inside the team's top-30 prospects.

Hayden Minton has a 2.61 ERA over 48 1/3 innings pitched at Single-A and High-A. He's got 48 strikeouts as well. Minton is also not ranked right now.

Andrew Sears has posted a 2.89 ERA over 46 2/3 innings at High-A. He has 57 strikeouts already. Sears is another prospect who is performing well, but isn't ranked inside the top 30 right now.

Luke Stofel has a stellar 1.02 ERA over 44 1/3 innings at Single-A. The 23-year-old has 35 strikeouts right now. Stofel also isn't ranked.

Top-Ranked Prospects

Max Clark is the team's No. 1 prospect and is in High-A right now. The 20-year-old outfielder has a 2027 ERA after being taken third overall in the 2023 MLB Draft.

He has a .259 average and .416 OBP over 54 games this season, all in High-A. Clark has nine doubles, two triples and four home runs among his 53 total hits, along with 37 RBIs, 36 runs scored, nine stolen bases, 54 walks and just 42 strikeouts.

Kevin McGonigle is also playing in High-A and has a 2027 ETA. The team's No. 2 prospect has a .382 average and .479 OBP over 27 games at Single-A and High-A this year. 

McGonigle has 22 RBIs, 23 runs scored, 19 walks, 13 strikeouts and a stolen base to his name as well. The middle infielder was taken 37th overall in the 2023 draft and is only 20 years old.

Bryce Rainer is 19 years old, plays in Single-A and is the team's No. 3 prospect. He's got a .288 average and .383 OBP over 35 games this season.

Rainer has 36 total hits, including five doubles and homers. He has 22 RBIs, 19 runs scored, 20 walks, nine stolen bases and 33 strikeouts as well. Rainer's ETA is 2028.

Josue Briceno is the team's No. 4 prospect and has a 2027 ETA after being signed by the team in 2022. He's 20 years old and is playing in High-A.

Briceno is hitting .268 and getting on base at a .397 clip over 42 games. He has 40 total hits, including nine doubles, a triple and 13 homers. Briceno also has 42 RBIs, 30 runs scored, a stolen base, 32 walks and 34 strikeouts on the season.

Thayron Liranzo is the No. 5 prospect for Detroit. The 21-year-old plays in AA and has a 2026 ETA after being signed in 2021 by the Dodgers.

Liranzo has played in 45 games this season and has a .211 average and .345 OBP. He has 34 total hits (including seven doubles and eight homers), 27 RBIs, 34 runs scored and walks and 57 strikeouts.
