Because yesterday fell on the first day of July, we went over hitters and pitchers who excelled and struggled during the month of June instead of doing our weekly roundup of hitters trending up and down.

Today, let's now go over the best and worst hitters over the past week. We'll start with hitters trending down, and only include notable fantasy players.

We'll look at stats from June 24-July 1.

Fewest Hits

Among qualified hitters, Milwaukee's Rhys Hoskins, Chicago White Sox' Miguel Vargas, New York Yankees' Ben Rice and Kansas City's Jac Caglianone all had just one hit over that timeframe we are using.

Hoskins singled for his only hit. He drove in a run and scored once, while walking three times and striking out on five occasions. He's down to 36% rostered, and isn't a good starting option in any leagues right now.

Vargas singled for his only hit, while not driving any runs. He had two runs scored, three walks, a stolen base and seven strikeouts as well. Vargas is trending down, and is rostered in 51% of leagues now.

Rice homered for his lone hit. He also walked four times, scored three runs and drove in a run, while striking out on four occasions - he also was hit by three pitches. Rice sits at 42% rostered right now, but is slightly trending down, and probably would be at a much lower percentage if he wasn't a Yankee.

Caglianone singled for his only hit. He had no RBIs, one run scored, two walks and eight strikeouts. Caglianone is rostered in 52% of leagues, but is trending down again. He might be demoted if he doesn't turn things around soon.

Most Strikeouts

San Francisco's Rafael Devers struck out a league-leading 16 times last week. He had six hits, including a homer and two doubles, while also having two RBIs and runs scored and five walks. Devers is owned in all leagues, but the big strikeout numbers are one of the few downsides Devers has as a fantasy asset.

Atlanta's Ronald Acuna Jr. struck out 14 times over the timeframe we are using. He had three hits, all singles, along with two runs scored and RBIs and six walks - he also stole a base. Acuna finally slowed a bit at the plate, but he's still been an elite fantasy hitter since returning from his injury.

Baltimore's Jackson Holliday struck out 13 times last week. He had five hits, with a homer among the knocks. Holliday also had three runs scored, an RBI, four walks and a stolen base. Holliday is rostered in 77% of leagues, but is slightly trending down because of his recent struggles at the plate.

Some other fantasy hitters with double-digit strikeout totals over the past week or so are: Texas' Adolis Garcia, Arizona's Pavin Smith, Colorado's Michael Toglia and Ryan McMahon, San Francisco's Heliot Ramos and Mike Yastrzemski, Athletics' Nick Kurtz, Philadelphia's Nick Castellanos and Kyle Schwarber, Cleveland's Lane Thomas, Chicago Cubs' Ian Happ, Seattle's Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez, Toronto's Addison Barger and Houston's Cam Smith.

Other Struggling Hitters

New York Mets' Francisco Lindor had a .080 average over his past six games and 25 at-bats. He had two hits, including a double, along with an RBI, two runs scored, a walk and five strikeouts.

Cleveland' Jose Ramirez had just two singles over 23 at-bats. He walked once, didn't score a run, drove in a pair, stole a base and struck out four times.

San Francisco's Jung Hoo Lee continued to struggle at the plate, collecting just two hits (including a triple) over 22 at-bats. He walked three times and got plunked by two pitches, but failed to drive in a run. Lee also had two runs scored and struck out twice.

St. Louis' Alec Burleson got on base at just a .138 clip over 29 plate appearances. He had four hits, including a homer and two doubles, along with five RBIs, two runs scored, no walks and five strikeouts.

San Diego's Manny Machado didn't score a run or drive in a run. He singled for all four of his hits, walked once and struck out four times.

New York Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt didn't drive in a run and had just three hits. He doubled for one of the hits, scored twice, walked three times and struck out once.

Atlanta's Marcell Ozuna had no RBIs and singled for all five of his hits. He also had two runs scored, three walks and nine punchouts.
