New Top-10 Dynasty Baseball Second Basemen Rankings: Will Anyone Ever Challenge Ketel Marte for the Top Spot?

Let's continue a dynasty baseball series where I re-rank the top-10 options at each position.

I've gone over catchers and first basemen so far and now will move on to second basemen. Here's my story from before the season.

1. Ketel Marte (Preseason Ranking: 1)

Marte ranked first before the season for me, and I'm keeping him there in my re-rank article.

He was injured for a good chunk of the season and is still a top-10 fantasy option right now. The 31-year-old has a few more big seasons in him I think, and there's really nobody else who is challenging him for the top spot right now.

2. Jackson Holliday (Preseason Ranking: 3)

I'm moving Holliday up a spot for this article. He was ranked third before the season started.

Holliday hasn't done anything special this season, but he's shown improvement from his rookie season and is just 21 years old. Hopefully he's able to solidify this spot by the end of the season, and there's a chance he eventually passes Marte for the top spot.

3. Kristian Campbell (Preseason Ranking: 5)

Campbell moves up two spots for me - he was ranked fifth before the season.

He started the season hot but has fizzled out a bit. The bigger development is that he's getting invaluable MLB experience and is just 22 years old (nearly 23). In time, I expect the highly-regarded prospect to find his footing and become one of the top fantasy second baseman in the game.

4. Ozzie Albies (Preseason Ranking: 2)

I'm hesitantly putting Albies in my No. 4 spot. I really wanted to drop him even more.

He's really struggled this season (career-worst numbers), and it makes me skeptical of his long-term fantasy value. The reason I decided to put him fourth is because he's just 28 years old. He could drop a few more spots by the end of the season if he doesn't turn things around though.

5. Travis Bazzana (Preseason Ranking: 7)

Bazzana moves up a couple spots, mostly because of poor play from the guys who were ranked before him.

He's playing in Double-A for Cleveland and is expected to be called up by the end of the season. Bazzana is out with an oblique strain, which might hold him back from debuting sooner, but in the long run, I really believe in him being a top-end fantasy second baseman.

6. Jose Altuve (Preseason Ranking: 6)

Altuve sticks at No. 6 in my dynasty re-rank. He really deserves to go up, but at 35 years old, I cannot justify it.

Altuve still has some bigger fantasy seasons in him it appears, but is only a good dynasty asset on the contending teams. Trade him if your team falls out of contention or is in a rebuild.

7. Matt McLain (Preseason Ranking: 4)

I was extremely high on McClain the season, and maybe I'm still too high on him, but I'm not quite ready to bail on him as a dynasty asset yet. He dropped three spots in my re-rank.

He's heating up at the plate a bit, but is still batting .194 and getting on base at a .291 clip, so he simply needs to produce more to gain back dynasty value. He could move back up, or completely out of the top 10, depending on how his season ends.

8. Luis Garcia Jr. (Preseason Ranking: 8)

I'm keeping Garcia in the No. 8 slot today. He's a top-10 fantasy second baseman so far this season and is still just 25 years old.

His numbers have dropped off from last season, so that's a concern, but we can reassess that at the end of the season. He has a chance to move up a bit, or fall out of the top 10 depending on what else happens around him.

9. Luke Keaschall (Preseason Ranking: 9)

Keaschall keeps his No. 9 slot in the re-rank of dynasty second basemen. He looked good in his first seven MLB games before landing on the injured list.

If he returns and continues to deliver strong results, he could jump several spots in the rankings by the end of the season. Keaschall is just 22 years old and is going a bit overlooked with a lack of big power numbers.

10. Brice Turang (Preseason Ranking: HM)

Turang joins the top 10 after not being ranked before the season began. He's the No. 9 fantasy 2B right now.

He's improved his numbers pretty much across the board from 2024, and is just 25 years old. Turang is a bit overlooked as well, but he's trending in the right direction in dynasty leagues.

Honorable Mentions

Luis Rengifo was the only second baseman who fell out of my top 10, despite all the movement inside the list. He was ranked 10th before the season.

Rengifo has regressed in a major way this season, and his long-term fantasy value has really fallen off. He's 28 years old and still has time to turn things around this season, but I'm not so sure a strong finish to the season would even get him back in my top 10 now.

Nico Hoerner, Brendan Donovan and Gleyber Torres were honorable mentions before the season, and are top-10 fantasy options today, so they are worth mentioning again. Bryson Stott, Marcus Semien, Jonathan India and Andres Gimenez are more veterans I mentioned before the season, but none have really stood out to move up my list.

Christian Moore, Michael Arroyo, Termarr Johnson, James Triantos and Orelvis Martinez are some top-10 ranked second basemen worth keeping an eye on in the long haul.

The second base position is maybe the weakest dynasty spot out there. It's tough to find good talent anywhere, so hopefully in time some guys emerge.
