Updated Top-10 Dynasty Baseball First Basemen: Where do Nick Kurtz and Jac Caglianone Rank Now?

Morgan re-ranks his top-10 dynasty first basemen in early June.

A couple days ago, I started a fantasy baseball series where I re-rank the top dynasty players at each position.

We looked at catchers the other day, and will go over first basemen now. Here's my top-10 list before the season began.

Explore the best in-season tool to manage lineup/start decisions including waiver pickups, projections, trade suggestions, trade value charts, rest of season rankings, power rankings, and tons more with Fantasy Assistant.

1. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (Preseason Ranking: 1)

Guerrero keeps the No. 1 spot in my re-rank.

He's had a down season by his standard and still sits fourth at the position in points leagues so far. Guerrero is still only 26 years old and has several strong years ahead of him yet - and I don't think we've seen him at his peak yet.

2. Pete Alonso (Preseason Ranking: 3)

Alonso gets bumped up a spot in my re-rank of the first base position.

Alonso has been spectacular this season and is the No. 1 fantasy first baseman (by a good bit) so far. He's 30 years old and could deliver at this level another couple seasons before falling off.

3. Bryce Harper (Preseason Ranking: 2)

Harper drops down a spot from my preseason ranking of him.

Injuries have held him back this season, and that's part of the reason why I dropped him. He's 32 years old and isn't getting younger, so he was bound to fall down the rankings at some point.

4. Matt Olson (Preseason Ranking: 4)

Olson sticks as my No. 4 dynasty first baseman.

He's 31 years old but simply is durable and reliable. Olson plays every game, which helps make up for any down seasons he has. He's got a couple big seasons left in him yet, and he probably is more valuable in a dynasty than you might think at first glance.

5. Josh Naylor (Preseason Ranking: 6)

Naylor moves up a spot for me.

The 27-year-old is thriving in Arizona and is the No. 2 fantasy 1B so far. Naylor should remain a big fantasy asset, regardless of what team he suits up for next.

6. Freddie Freeman (Preseason Ranking: 5)

Freeman unfortunately has to move down a spot with Naylor moving up.

Freeman doesn't deserve to drop, but he dealt with injuries early in the season and is 35 years old, so he was the logical choice of who to move down. Only roster Freeman if your dynasty team is contending, otherwise sell him for future assets.

7. Nick Kurtz (Preseason Ranking: HM)

Kurtz moves into the top 10 after being an honorable mention before the season.

The 2024 draft pick mashed in the minor leagues and earned a call up earlier this season. In his first 30 games, he has so-so numbers, but he's shown flashes of being the next big fantasy stud at first base. He, and the next guy on the list, could move up even more if they excel the rest of the season.

8. Jac Caglianone (Preseason Ranking: HM)

Caglianone is another honorable mention who jumps into my top 10 now.

He also was drafted last summer, but simply mashed his way into the big leagues a couple weeks ago. Caglianone only has eight MLB games under his belt, but he has shown some solid things and looks like another future fantasy stud.

9. Vinnie Pasquantino (Preseason Ranking: 10)

Pasquantino moves up a spot from his preseason ranking.

He started the season slow, but has come on strong over the past several weeks. Pasquantino is just 27 years old, and I think there's another level or two to his game that we haven't seen yet.

10. Bryce Eldridge (Preseason Ranking: 8)

Eldridge drops a couple spots in my re-rank of the first basemen, but only because the couple prospects have beat him to the big leagues and Pasquantino has performed well.

Eldridge is in Triple-A now and should be in the big leagues before the end of this season. The 20-year-old could really jump up the dynasty rankings at the position if he's able to get to the big leagues and deliver before the season comes to a close.

Honorable Mentions

Triston Casas was my No. 7 dynasty 1B before the season, but has now dropped out of my rankings. He didn't accomplish much at the plate before he suffered a devastating, season-ending injury in early May. Now his future is murky at best.

Colt Keith also fell out of my top 10 - he was ranked ninth for me. I still like the 23-year-old's outlook moving forward, but he's taken a step back so far, so he falls out of my rankings for now.

C.J. Kayfus and Tyler Locklear are still top-10 prospects at the position to keep an eye on, and both are expected to reach the big leagues yet this season. Xavier Isaac, Tre' Morgan and Josue Briceno are other top-10 prospects at the position who should make the big leagues in the years to come.

Spencer Torkelson has put his name back on the map with a good start to his 2025 season. If he continues that for the full season, then he could get into the top 10.

Cody Bellinger, Luis Arraez, Tyler Soderstrom, Michael Busch, Nolan Schanuel are some veterans who still have some value in dynasty leagues because they are not too old.
