Brad Lord battles command issues in swingman role following IL return

Lord has endured a turbulent stretch since returning from the injured list, posting an 11.25 ERA and 2.92 WHIP over 2.4 innings in his last 14 days. His command completely unraveled in his latest outing with four walks in under an inning of work. With the fourth-place Nationals sitting at 61-67, he remains an active swingman and rotation depth option, though his immediate high-leverage trust is shaky.

The recent spike in walks is an outlier against Lord's broader season performance, where he has maintained a 4.46 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 56.5 innings. Our models project a 4.40 ERA rest-of-season, aligning closely with his 4.48 career mark from 2025. Expect his ratios to normalize toward his mid-rotation baseline rather than sustain these extreme blowup numbers.
