Hey folks. Today, we're checking in on another busy stretch of injury news as rosters continue to be tested across the league.

We've got a superstar returning to action who looks to make an immediate impact, a couple of key pieces officially heading to injured reserve, and a pair of elite talents whose day-to-day status could force fantasy managers into some uncomfortable short-term decisions.

As always, the goal is staying ahead of the news rather than reacting too late, especially with schedules tightening and lineup flexibility becoming more valuable by the week. Let's break down the latest updates and what they mean for fantasy managers moving forward.

William Nylander - Toronto Maple Leafs

Nylander has now missed a game-and-a-half after leaving Hockey Night in Canada's matchup against the Ottawa Senators in the Battle of Ontario. He popped up on the injury report as a day-to-day concern, which is never ideal timing with the schedule ramping back up following the holiday break.

The Maple Leafs have been cautious with their top forwards in similar situations, and this appears more like short-term management than anything pointing toward a lengthy absence. Still, any missed time from a player logging heavy minutes in all offensive situations immediately ripples through fantasy lineups, particularly for managers leaning heavily on Toronto's top-end production.

From a deployment standpoint, Nylander's value is tied to his ability to drive offense regardless of which line he's on, and that remains unchanged. His deployment remains elite, and given Toronto's lack of proven depth this season, even brief absences create both short-term lineup challenges and broader concerns for fantasy managers relying on his consistency.

Managers should monitor practice participation and pregame skates closely, but there is no reason to consider drastic moves unless his status shifts beyond day-to-day. For fantasy purposes, this remains a hold across all formats. Nylander is a set-and-forget forward when active, and even a brief absence should not alter his rest-of-season outlook. If anything, this serves as a reminder to double check lineup locks and have a short-term replacement ready as the Leafs push into the second half.

Nylander has 14 goals, 27 assists, and eight powerplay points in 33 games played as a forward. He also has 68 shots on goal, four hits, and 12 blocked shots.

Pyotr Kochetkov - Carolina Hurricanes

Kochetkov is set to undergo hip surgery and will miss the remainder of the season, a definitive update that finally brings clarity to Carolina's long-running, three-goalie situation. With Kochetkov sidelined, the Hurricanes are left with only two options in the crease, effectively ending the rotational uncertainty that has frustrated fantasy managers for much of the year.

That clarity matters. Frederik Andersen's play this season has been uneven, and his well documented tendency to miss time only adds another layer of risk. As a result, the door is now wide open for Brandon Bussi to step into the starter's role for the remainder of the campaign. Carolina has shown a willingness to lean heavily on one goaltender when circumstances allow, and this setup strongly suggests a clear shift toward Bussi handling the bulk of the workload.

All aboard the Bussi!

With the depth chart thinned and deployment about to spike, his fantasy value is poised to rise quickly. If Bussi is available in your league, he should be added immediately. In many cases, this is a situation where managers should make room and move on from another goaltender, even one with name value, to secure the opportunity here.

Carolina remains one of the stingiest teams in the league when it comes to limiting shots on goal. That may cap raw save totals on some nights, but it significantly boosts the chances of strong ratios and, more importantly, wins. With volume no longer split three ways, Bussi profiles as a must-add goaltender whose role and fantasy relevance are about to skyrocket.

Kochetkov had six wins in eight games started as a goaltender. He also had an .899 save percentage, 2.33 goals against average, and one shutout.

Karel Vejmelka - Utah Mammoth

Vejmelka is currently sidelined with an upper-body injury, though details remain scarce from the Mammoth. He was originally slated to start on December 23 before being scratched late in the process, then had the benefit of the holiday break to rest. With no meaningful updates emerging since then, Utah has now placed him on injured reserve, signaling that this absence may stretch beyond a simple day-to-day designation.

The lack of clarity is the biggest challenge for fantasy managers here. Late scratches followed by silence often suggest something more than minor maintenance, and the move to injured reserve reinforces that concern. Vejmelka has been leaned on heavily this season, making his absence a notable hit for managers counting on steady volume and consistent deployment, particularly in leagues that reward wins.

In the meantime, Vitek Vanecek is expected to serve as Utah's starter until Vejmelka is cleared to return. While Vanecek does not bring the same long-term security, the short-term opportunity is real, especially for managers in need of immediate goaltending help. Vejmelka remains a hold if you have injured reserve space available, but this is a situation that needs close monitoring as any update on his timeline will directly impact both goaltenders' fantasy value.

Vejmelka has 16 wins in 29 games started as a goaltender. He also has an .896 save percentage, 2.7 goals against average, and one shutout.

Shayne Gostisbehere - Carolina Hurricanes

Ghostbear is dealing with a groin injury and was listed as a gametime decision for Monday night's win against the New York Rangers. Being labeled a gametime call is generally a positive sign, suggesting the issue may not be overly severe, but groin injuries are notoriously tricky, particularly for players who rely heavily on mobility and puck movement.

That history matters here. Ghostbear has dealt with his share of injuries over the years and even this season, and while he remains one of the most productive offensive defensemen in the league when healthy, availability has always been part of the equation. Even short absences can disrupt his rhythm, and Carolina has shown a willingness to manage workloads carefully when injuries linger.

For fantasy managers, this is a situation that warrants caution rather than panic. Ghostbear should remain active in lineups when he is confirmed to be in the lineup, but monitoring pregame reports and practice participation is critical. His upside remains elite, but it only truly matters when he is on the ice, making this a spot where vigilance can make the difference between maximizing value and taking an avoidable zero.

Gostisbehere has four goals, 25 assists, and eight powerplay points in 28 games played as a defenseman. He also has 48 shots on goal, 11 hits, and 26 blocked shots.

Shane Pinto - Ottawa Senators

Pinto returned to action in Monday night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, bringing some much-needed depth down the middle for the Ottawa Senators. While he isn't the most elite player in the team's youth movement, his presence is important for both lineup stability and secondary scoring.

From a fantasy perspective, Pinto offers modest upside but a reliable floor when active. He plays a role that allows him to contribute offensively without being a primary option, making him a useful piece for managers in deeper leagues or as short-term insurance for other injuries. His return also helps stabilize the Senators down the middle, which can indirectly boost production from teammates.

Managers should view Pinto as a low-risk add if available, particularly in leagues where depth down the middle is thin. While he won't carry top-end fantasy value, his role in Ottawa's lineup gives him relevance, and his consistent minutes make him a steady contributor while other players return from injury.

Pinto has 12 goals, six assists, and one powerplay point in 28 games played as a forward. He also has 67 shots on goal, 34 hits, and 18 blocked shots.
