Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Rising Hitters & Deep-League Gems
A look at rising waiver wire hitters, catcher help, and a few deep-league pitching options to consider adding now.
After looking into some fantasy baseball pitching streamers, let's discuss some more waiver wire options here.
Here is the waiver wire story for hitters we did on Monday.
Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Cade Cavalli - Washington Nationals
Cavalli is up 3.74% today, and he sits at 34.58% overall now.
Cavalli will be starting against the Twins on Monday, so he's another streaming option. Minnesota is a pretty solid matchup, so I understand why he's on the rise.
Cavalli has started six games so far this season, and he's 1-1 in those outings. He's got a 3.82 earned run average over 30 2/3 innings, allowing 17 runs (13 earned) on 37 hits and two walks, while striking out 38 along the way.
He's struck out 10 in back-to-back starts, and not allowed over two earned runs in three straight starts. Cavalli is on the rise, and in this matchup today, can be trusted to deliver a decent fantasy score. He's a better deep-league option, but could be considered in standard leagues as well.
Ryan Jeffers - Minnesota Twins
Jeffers has been added in 3.42% of leagues, which brings his overall mark to 47.35%.
The catcher went hitless in his last appearance, but had 10 hits during a seven-game hitting streak before that. Jeffers sits with a .287 average and .394 on-base percentage over 26 games and 105 plate appearances on the season after his hot streak.
He has 25 total hits, including four home runs, two doubles and one triple. Jeffers has 17 runs scored, 21 RBIs, a stolen base, 15 walks and 19 strikeouts.
At a weaker fantasy position, you could benefit from adding and utilizing Jeffers. He's delivering pretty well this season, and especially of late. Give him an add in deeper leagues and utilize him, at least until he cools off a bit.
Casey Schmitt - San Francisco Giants
Schmitt is rostered in 37.69% of leagues after being added in 5.73% of leagues today.
Schmitt is riding a six-game hitting streak, collecting nine knocks over that streak. He has a .308 average and .359 OBP over 29 games and 117 plate appearances on the season now.
He has 33 total hits, including eight doubles, five homers and a triple. Schmitt has 13 runs scored, 16 RBIs, two stolen bases, five walks and 23 punchouts.
Something else working in his favor is that he plays multiple spots - he could be eligible at first, second and third base, and maybe even shortstop. He mostly serves as the team's designated hitter, but that position versatility makes him a better waiver asset. Schmitt is still a better deep-league asset, but he's a pretty valuable one.
Dillon Dingler - Detroit Tigers
Dingler is back on the rise. He's up over 7% today, and is sitting at 66.04% owned right now.
He has a four-game hitting streak going, and has five knocks over that span. Dingler has a homer and six RBIs over that stretch, and is up to a .257 average and .328 OBP over 30 games and 118 plate appearances for the season now.
He has 27 total hits, including seven doubles and six home runs. Dingler has 25 RBIs, 12 runs scored, seven walks and 20 strikeouts.
The catcher has regressed a bit with his average from last year, but has a similar OBP, and is hitting for more power and doing better in the run production department. He's a very good deep-league asset, and is worth picking up and utilizing in standard leagues too.
Caleb Kilian - San Francisco Giants
Kilian is at just 2.88% rostered right now. He should go over that mark today, after earning a save on Monday.
He has been serving as a setup man for San Fran, but got the chance to lock down a save on Monday with Ryan Walker struggling of late. Kilian allowed a run in his inning of work, but struck out two and helped the Giants top the Padres.
Kilian has pitched in 15 games so far this season. He is 1-1, and now has a save to go along with two holds. He has no blown saves. Kilian has allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits and eight walks, while striking out 18 batters over 16 innings.
Kilian is on the rise now that he appears to be getting save chances for the Giants. We'll have to keep tracking things to see if he's the No. 1 option for saves, or if this was just a one-time thing. Add him in some deep redraft leagues today, and be ready to add him in more leagues if he keeps stacking saves.
