Top Fantasy Baseball Drop Candidates Heading Into the Weekend

A look at the latest fantasy baseball players losing value, dealing with injuries, or trending toward the waiver wire.

After looking into fantasy baseball waiver wire options (streamers and more), let's go over some drop candidates.

Here are drop stories from Monday and Wednesday.

More droppable player data can be located on the waiver wire trends most dropped tab, which can be found on any fantasy baseball page here at FantasySP.

Luis Robert Jr. - New York Mets

Robert is down 3.9% today, and sits at 62% overall. He was over 90% earlier in the season.

Robert hit the 10-day injured list a couple days ago with lumbar disc herniation. He's not expected to miss much more than the required 10 days, but the oft-injured player is being dropped regardless.

In 24 games and 98 plate appearances, Robert has a .224 average and .327 on-base percentage. He has three doubles, two homers, 19 total hits, eight RBIs, 10 runs scored, two stolen bases, 13 walks and 17 strikeouts.

He can be a decent fantasy asset when healthy and producing, and he was earlier this season. Robert is too risky a fantasy asset, so I only look at him as a deep-league asset. He can be streamed in standard leagues when he's hot at the plate, so keep tabs on his return and stats.

Michael Soroka - Arizona Diamondbacks

Soroka is at 90% now, but is being dropped after his Thursday start.

He was great in his first five starts, allowing eight runs over 27 2/3 innings. Soroka was tagged for eight runs over three innings on Thursday.

Soroka is still 4-1 on the season, but his 4.70 earned run average over 30 2/3 innings doesn't look so great anymore. We'll have to wait and see if Soroka can bounce back going forward, but after his struggles on Thursday, he's more of a streaming option in standard leagues.

Keep him rostered in deeper leagues, but drop him and treat him as a standard league streamer for the time being.

Ramon Laureano - San Diego Padres

Laureano has been let go in 2.4% of leagues. He's rostered in 67% of leagues overall.

He didn't start the team's last game, but he pinch hit. Laureano didn't have a hit in that contest, which was the first time in three games that he didn't record a hit. He had three hits on April 23, but only has six knocks over his last nine games and 39 plate appearances.

Laureano has played in 28 games and logged 120 plate appearances this season. He has a .252 average and .317 OBP, plus 18 RBIs, 14 runs scored, three stolen bases, 10 walks and 35 strikeouts. Laureano has 27 total hits, including four homers and doubles and two triples.

Laureano can be a sneaky-good fantasy asset when he's going well at the plate. Other times, he's not worth rostering in standard leagues, and now is one of those times. Laureano is still rosterable in deeper leagues, but I'd look elsewhere for help in standard leagues.

Brandon Woodruff - Milwaukee Brewers

Woodruff is starting to be dropped after he left his Thursday start early. He's at 96% rostered now.

Woodruff lasted just 1 1/3 innings on Thursday before leaving with what he said was a “dead arm.” It's concerning for the oft-injured pitcher.

He had a 3.60 ERA over 30 innings in his six starts so far. Woodruff had 25 strikeouts, while allowing 13 runs (12 earned) on 24 hits and seven walks.

Woodruff's status needs to be watched, and hopefully he doesn't miss any time. If he hits the IL, he'll be dropped in some fantasy leagues. For now, he's one to watch, and we'll reassess things when we know more.

Casey Mize - Detroit Tigers

Mize is owned in 56% of leagues, which is down 4.8% today.

Mize hit the 15-day injured list with a right adductor strain. The Tigers are hoping he returns close to that 15-day mark.

In six starts, he's 2-2 with a 2.90 ERA over 31 innings. Mize has allowed 10 runs on 26 hits and 11 walks, while striking out 35 batters.

He was off to a good start, so it's a shame to see him hit the IL. Mize is one to track, and re-add as he nears a return to the big leagues, because he's been worthy of a lot of fantasy ownership/utilization this season. For now though, he could be droppable (especially in standard leagues) if you don't have the roster space to stash him.
