Fantasy Baseball Sunday Streaming Pitchers: Reid Detmers and Top Waiver Wire Rankings
Five starting pitchers with good matchups on Sunday who are widely available in fantasy leagues.
It's the last week of April; by the time we reach the weekend, 2026 will be one-third of the way through. Time flies, but we will soon be hitting the long middle stretch of the baseball season, a time that will cause many fans to let their interest ebb and flow.
Fantasy baseball owners don't have that luxury, so let's look at five starting pitchers in action on Sunday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.
Use FantasySP's waiver wire tool to find the players who are being added to fantasy teams most often!
Reid Detmers, Los Angeles Angels @ Kansas City Royals
Detmers is a high-level strikeout pitcher whose walk rate is just a hair worse than average. He also does well limiting both hits and homers, and outside of a rough 2024, he has never had an ERA over 4.50 in a season in which he threw at least 25 innings. Detmers will turn 27 in July, sitting right in the middle of his prime, and he could jump another level if he can start averaging over 150 innings per year.
It's super early in the season, so we can't just look at records and accept it as how teams will play all season, but Kansas City has started about as poorly as possible. Entering Saturday, the were tied for the worst record in the American League and had the worst run differential in the AL. Their offense has been lacking in essentially every area; it will take multiple players turning things around to raise this team to an average level.
Detmers is a mid-level streamer with upside. I want to bump him up another level but will show some restraint, though I love his strikeout work and the matchup here. Detmers belongs in a lineup in most leagues today.
Foster Griffin, Washington Nationals @ Chicago White Sox
The White Sox are continuing their run of putrid offensive performances, hitting some home runs so far but faltering otherwise. A team can succeed by hitting for power with a lower average if they really mash, but Chicago hasn't put up enough periphery numbers to let those homers really do damage. They also help our cause by striking out at a top-10 rate.
Griffin threw eight combined innings over 2020 and 2022 before spending the past three years playing in Japan. He pitched well overseas and returned stateside this year to join Washington's rotation. Back in MLB, he has found some early success, combining for 26 2/3 innings, 24 hits, 10 runs, eight walks, and 22 strikeouts. He has given up five homers, which could be a concern if that rate continues, but I'm cautiously optimistic that Griffin can keep being at least an average pitcher.
Griffin is a low-to-mid-level streamer. His strikeout work was average at best even in Japan, so I'm not expecting big things there, but if he can continue preventing runs, Griffin will have a little value when the matchup is right.
Max Meyer, Miami Marlins @ San Francisco Giants
Meyer has generally been good with walks and strikeouts, but he gets hit too much, allowing more than a hit per inning and a homer every 5.1 innings (league average is closer to 7). This year, he has given up just 20 hits and two home runs in 25 innings, and if he can keep that up while sustaining his above-average strikeout rate, he will be a valuable fantasy player. Just 27 years old, Meyer should be entering his best years.
The Giants started off as cold as possible, scoring only one run in their three-game series against the Yankees to start the season. They have been better since (they HAD to get better), but San Francisco is still a below-average offensive team. Entering Saturday, they had scored the fewest runs and were tied for the fewest home runs, and their home stadium is a major pitcher's park, giving Meyer an extra benefit in this one.
Meyer is a mid-level streamer with upside. His continued strikeout work with better run prevention has his arrow tentatively pointing up, but the Giants don't strike out much, lowering the ceiling a bit.
Keider Montero, Detroit Tigers @ Cincinnati Reds
Cincinnati keeps winning, but their offense has faltered along the way, instead riding above-average pitching work and good luck to their 18-9 record. The Reds rank last in hits and batting average, and they are in the bottom 10 in many other stats. They also rank among the top 10 in most batter strikeouts, setting a nice ceiling for opposing pitchers.
Montero is good with walks but below average with strikeouts, a fine profile for a streamer but something that leaves him with a lower ceiling than some of the other pitchers listed here today. He hasn't allowed a home run yet in 2026 in 22 innings after allowing one every 5.4 innings the previous two seasons, so if that regresses to the old number, it will affect his bottom line, but there is still enough good here to make him an intriguing option when the matchup is right.
Montero is a low-to-mid-level streamer. The matchup is good, but Montero's career numbers are worse than his 2026 marks so far, so I'm a bit cautious of how this will sustain. Still, we have to pay attention to his good start and acknowledge his fantasy potential.
Kodai Senga, New York Mets vs. Colorado Rockies
The first paragraph on Senga appeared in yesterday's streaming article, but that game was postponed to a doubleheader today, bumping Senga to Sunday.
Senga keeps striking guys out, but that's the only thing he has done well this season, totaling 17 1/3 innings, 23 hits, 18 runs, four home runs, and 10 walks. He began with two decent starts against the Cardinals and Giants but has been beaten up the past two games against the A's and Cubs. I want to believe he will bounce back, but it's impossible to ignore the numbers so far.
The Rockies were expected to be a bottom team again after finishing with the worst record and a bottom-five offense last season. They get a little boost when they play at home, but this game is away from Coors Field, leaving Colorado as one of our favorite target teams.
Senga is a low-to-mid-level streamer. His strikeout work gives him some upside, but Senga's performance hasn't been up to a level where we can trust him just because the matchup is right.
