Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Streaming Starting Pitchers & Relievers to Add for Friday
A mix of starting pitcher streamers and rising relievers to target on Friday.
For a second straight day, I'm going to break the fantasy baseball waiver wire/streaming articles into two stories. Here, we will look at pitchers only, and mainly starting pitcher streaming options.
Check back in a bit for the hitter-focused waiver wire article. Here was Thursday's waiver wire/streaming story for pitchers.
Fantasy baseball waiver wire options can be found all season on FantasySP!
Aaron Civale - Athletics
Civale is the first of the starting pitcher streaming options we are discussing today. He's owned in 31.41% of leagues right now, which is up 8.15% today so far.
He will be facing the White Sox, which is a fantastic matchup to target.
Civale has looked good early on, going 2-0 with a 1.72 earned run average over three starts. He's allowed three runs on 10 hits and five walks, while striking out 12 over 15 2/3 innings.
He's faced much tougher lineups in those three starts, so Civale is set up for his best start of the year. Give him adds in deeper leagues, and consider him in standard leagues depending on who else is available.
Nick Martinez - Tampa Bay Rays
Martinez is owned in 22.81% of leagues before he makes his next start. He's up 4.79% already today.
He will be facing the Pirates on Friday night. That's a pretty solid matchup.
In three starts, Martinez doesn't have a win or loss, but he has a 2.16 ERA over 16 2/3 innings. He's given up four runs on 12 hits and four walks, while striking out 11 batters.
He's another starting pitcher streaming option who I like better in deeper leagues today. Martinez could be considered in standard leagues, but I believe there's better options out there.
Michael Soroka - Arizona Diamondbacks
Soroka has been added in 4.36% of leagues today, bringing his overall mark to 68.71%.
He will face the Blue Jays on Friday. That's been a surprisingly good matchup early on, but Toronto still has enough hitters to deliver big any game.
Soroka is 3-0 over his first three starts, and sits with a 2.87 ERA so far. He's allowed five runs on 13 hits and six walks, while striking out 23 batters over 15 2/3 innings.
There's a lot to like in those numbers, but the matchup holds him back a bit. Soroka should be starting in all deeper leagues, but he's not a must-start guy in standard leagues.
Davis Martin - Chicago White Sox
Martin is up 2.96% today so far, and sits at 27.67% overall before he makes a start.
Martin is the other half of the pitching matchup for the White Sox-Athletics game. The Athletics are a pretty solid matchup as well.
In his three starts, Martin is 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA over 18 innings. He's allowed five runs on 16 hits and four walks, while striking out 15 batters.
Martin has been pretty good early on, and the matchup makes him a solid option for Friday. I like him better in deeper leagues, but again, he could be considered in some standard leagues, although I think there's got to be better options out there.
Enyel De Los Santos - Houston Astros
De Los Santos is a reliever. He's up 3.82% and is rostered in 6.14% of leagues overall.
De Los Santos has earned a save in back-to-back outings for Houston, who is searching for a closer as Josh Hader works his way back from injury. He has no other decisions across his six total appearances on the year.
He's allowed a run on four hits and one walk in 6 2/3 innings so far. De Los Santos has six strikeouts to his name.
He might not be a long-term option for saves, but he could be a nice deep-league asset, especially if you are desperate for some saves. Give him a look, but be watching his stats closely to see when it makes sense to drop him.
Casey Mize - Detroit Tigers
Mize has been added in 4.65% of leagues and is owned in 49.71%.
Mize will be facing the Red Sox on Friday night. That's been a pretty good matchup early on.
In his first three starts, Mize is 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA. He's allowed seven runs on 17 hits and six walks, while striking out 18 over 16 frames. He was tagged for five of those runs in one start, but was really good in the other two.
I like the idea of streaming Mize against Boston tonight. He's a very good deep-league asset, and could be a standard league streamer too. Assess all your options and see if he's worth the add for tonight.
Bryan Baker - Tampa Bay Rays
Baker is another reliever who is on the rise. He's rostered in about 25% of leagues, which is up from 22% earlier in the week.
Baker has two saves in a row, and four in his past five appearances. He is 1-0 with the four saves and one blown save over eight appearances this year. Baker has allowed three runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out seven over 7 1/3 innings.
Tampa Bay has won enough of late to support Baker, who is trending up as a fantasy asset. He'll need to keep pitching well to keep being added.
I'm not sure the Rays will win enough to get him into standard leagues one day, but he is worth some deep-league adds, especially if you are chasing saves.
We'll be covering closer situations around the league later today, so check back for that!
