One Must-Start SP Streamer Dominates a Thin Thursday Fantasy Baseball Slate
Four starting pitchers in action on Thursday who have good matchups and are widely available in fantasy leagues.
It's a bit of a short slate today, as we have just six games on the MLB schedule. Even with the lack of players in action, there are still some decent SP streaming options, leaving fantasy owners with opportunities to fill open slots in the pitching staff.
Let's look at four starting pitchers in action on Thursday who have good matchups and are widely available in fantasy leagues. Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable pitchers. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.
Use FantasySP's injury report to keep up with the players who are dealing with maladies and set to miss time.
Seth Lugo, Kansas City Royals vs. Chicago White Sox
The White Sox are in the bottom 10 in most offensive box stats, really only hitting home runs at an average rate (and they are in the top five in most batter strikeouts). There have been some bright spots, including sweeping the Blue Jays last weekend, but we can probably expect Chicago to stay among the bottom teams in baseball, especially on offense.
Lugo made at least 26 starts each year from 2023-25 after previously mostly working as a reliever. In each of those three seasons, he has allowed fewer than a hit per inning with an ERA no higher than 4.15 and both a walk and strikeout rate average or better. Last year was his worst of those seasons, and he was still at least average overall. In two starts this year, Lugo has gone 11 1/3 innings with just two runs allowed, two walks, and 10 strikeouts, keeping up the strong work.
Lugo is a mid-to-high-level streamer. His continued strong work combined with the White Sox's struggles set him up for a possible big game here, and he has a nice floor even if he doesn't reach the ceiling.
Max Meyer, Miami Marlins vs. Cincinnati Reds
Meyer has both a career walk rate and strikeout rate average or better, but he has been hit hard, giving up 150 hits in 137 1/3 innings and a home run every 4.7 innings. That latter number is far worse than average and something that has helped inflate his ERA over 5.00. He has been OK this year, combining for 9 2/3 innings, five runs, five walks, and 11 strikeouts in two starts.
Cincinnati has higher hopes moving forward but has been struggling offensively so far, ranking in the bottom five in runs, hits, doubles, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS prior to Wednesday's games. Until they show something better, the Reds look like a good target early in the season.
Meyer is a low-level streamer. Though the matchup is good based on 2026 numbers, there's a chance Cincinnati will be at least average offensively. Add in Meyer's own struggles, and he's a pitcher to skip today.
Randy Vasquez, San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies
The Rockies are finally away from home after playing six straight at Coors Field, so they reemerge as maybe our top target for opposing pitchers. They are close to the middle in many offensive stats, but they are in the bottom five in walks drawn and the top five in most batter strikeouts, not setting themselves up for success. I continue to view Colorado as a must-target team away from home.
Vasquez has been average with walks in his career but far below that mark with strikeouts. He has been good limiting hits and home runs, so that lack of Ks hasn't hurt him too much, though it lowers his fantasy value a bit. Vasquez's start to 2026 has been great, as he has thrown 12 innings with eight hits, one run, four walks, and 11 strikeouts.
Vasquez is a low-to-mid-level streamer here. It's tempting to bump him up a level, and I can understand anyone who wants to chase the early success, but I'm pumping the breaks just a bit, as he'll definitely give up more runs eventually. The matchup is good enough to make him worth considering today.
Ryan Weathers, New York Yankees vs. Athletics
Weathers has an average walk rate and slightly below-average strikeout rate in his career. He has also been hit a little hard, allowing more than a hit per inning and a homer every 5.8 innings, a worse-than-average mark. He has been close enough to the middle overall to make him streamer-worthy when the matchup is right, but there doesn't seem to be much of a ceiling to his game.
The Athletics started the season by striking out at a big-time rate, racking up 50 Ks in their opening three-game series against the Blue Jays. The A's struck out at least 15 times in each of those games. They haven't been quite as bad since, but they still rank in the top 10 in most batter strikeouts and in the bottom 10 in most other offensive categories. We will be wary when they play at home (a minor league park in Sacramento that plays as a major hitter's park), but they are on the road here, so I'm optimistic about targeting them here.
Weathers is a low-to-mid-level streamer. I'm not real high on him, but the matchup couldn't be much better based on 2026 numbers, so there's reason for intrigue. This early in the season, those in most leagues can probably wait and use their innings in a better way later.
