It's the beginning of another week; make of that what you will. Let's look at five starting pitchers in action on Monday who are widely available in fantasy leagues and have good matchups.
Most stats are from MLB.com, as are the probable starters. The full streamer rankings are listed at the bottom.

Michael McGreevy, St. Louis Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Johan Oviedo, Pittsburgh Pirates @ St. Louis Cardinals
These NL Central foes are at the bottom of the division and close to out of the playoff race. Pittsburgh has been one of the worst teams all year and continues as a bottom-10 offense around good pitching, led by Paul Skenes. The Cardinals were better early in the season, but they have fallen off in the second half, selling at the trade deadline and accepting their fate that they aren't a contender. Now three games under .500 and 5.5 back in the wild card race, St. Louis needs to make their move or risk falling too far back.
McGreevy has found success in his short big-league career despite a low strikeout rate in part because he hardly ever walks anyone, giving up just nine BBs in 80 innings. He also doesn't give up home runs, allowing just five total (one every 16 innings). That's a really good way to find success.
Oviedo has made just two appearances this year after missing all of 2024 with Tommy John surgery. He is worse than average in his career with both walks and strikeouts, but Oviedo does well limiting batters when they do make contact, giving up less than a hit per inning and a home run every 9.1 innings. It's hard to expect much after the long layoff, but Oviedo is at least in consideration as a streamer.
McGreevy and Oviedo are both low-to-mid-level streamers. The matchups are right, but neither guy strikes out enough hitters to really get to the next level, and they both have middling outlooks.
Cam Schlittler, New York Yankees vs. Washington Nationals
Schlittler is doing well in his rookie season: 36 1/3 innings, 32 hits, 13 runs (3.22 ERA), 16 walks, and 38 strikeouts. That walk number is just a little too high, but he has done high-level strikeout work, offsetting those issues. He did good strikeout work in the minor leagues also, so there's hope he can keep up that performance, setting him up nicely as a fantasy option.
Washington has settled in as a clear bottom-10 offense after playing a little better earlier in the season. They now have the second-worst record in the National League and third-worst in baseball, and they rank in the bottom 10 in runs, hits, home runs, walks, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS.
Schlittler is a mid-level streamer. The matchup is right for a good day, and his own work, particularly with strikeouts, gives him a nice floor and ceiling, though there's always a little risk with young pitchers.
Shane Smith, Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals
Smith has 107 innings in his first big-league season, holding an average strikeout rate and allowing just 91 hits and 13 home runs (one every 8.2 innings). His walk rate is a little worse than average, and Smith has also allowed eight unearned runs, which would bump his ERA from 4.12 to 4.79, but Smith has been just fine as a rookie and a guy we can consider as a streamer.
Every time they end up here, I talk about Kansas City's lack of power. They rank near the middle of the league in hits and batting average, but they are in the bottom five in runs, home runs, and walks, something that offsets those smaller hits when they don't get strung together the right way. They are in the top five in doubles, another measure of power, but it hasn't helped them score more runs.
Smith is a low-to-mid-level streamer. His work has been pretty good, but the matchup here is just good and not great. The Royals provide an OK floor but not a high ceiling, as they don't strike out much.
Jose Soriano, Los Angeles Angels @ Texas Rangers
Soriano did great with strikeouts when he worked exclusively out of the bullpen in 2023, but that rate has fallen about 10 percentage points since he became a starter, something that has him just a hair below average. Pair that with a walk rate also a little worse than average, and Soriano has a bit of a risky profile. He does really good limiting hitters, though, giving up fewer than a hit per inning and a homer just once every 13.2 innings.
The Rangers keep falling back in the wild card race in main part because the offense can't keep up with a top-line pitching staff. Over the full season, they rank in the bottom 10 in runs, hits, doubles, walks, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS.
Soriano is another low-to-mid-level streamer. His strikeout work coming down lowers his fantasy value, but Soriano is still good enough to be an average pitcher, so the right matchup makes him intriguing.
